I was surprised that McCarthy came back after he left in 2022, I'm assuming issues with the coach at the time, but he's always been in and out of the league side.

If true, that's a massive disappointment regarding Gould. There were quite a few "educated" media types who suggested he'd be either picked up in last year's draft, or use this season as an audition. Personally, I think he peaked in his late teens and the rest of the field has well & truly caught up, he had plenty of time and opportunity at Sydney to establish himself and failed to deliver for a top 30 pick.
