Sam Powell-Pepper’s season has ended early, with scans confirming an anterior cruciate ligament rupture to his left knee.

It’s a heartbreaking result for the 27-year-old, who suffered the same injury to his right knee less than 15 months ago.

“It’s such a disappointing outcome for Sam, and for the club," Port Adelaide Head of Medical Services Tim O'Leary said.

"Sam is so courageous and hard-working, and was incredibly diligent with his previous knee rehab. There is no doubt he will approach this rehab with his usual high level of commitment, attacking it in the same way he attacks the footy."

Meanwhile, Esava Ratugolea and Dante Visentini also won't feature for the rest of the season after being involved in separate incidents during the first half at The Gabba on Saturday.

Ratugolea sustained a high-grade hamstring during a spoil and Visentini suffered a high-grade syndesmosis injury in a ruck contest.

Visentini will undergo surgery this week to repair his syndesmosis, while Ratugolea's treatment plan will be determined over the coming days.

Dante needs games into him and Esava plays like his on ice sometimes anyway.

Can't see us having much of a tilt at the cup next season, the saving grace will be that we'll finish 2025 in the bottom 5-6 which should see us getting a slightly easier draw.

I'm not real sure what the plan will be moving forward, we're neither here nor there in regards of a rebuild vs being competitive on a regular basis, I don't think we'll bottom out but a top 4 finish seems 4-5 years away IMO.

I don't think we played enough kids along the Kenny journey and the ones we trialed we either were too spasmodic or they just weren't up to it, I hope we just don't continue to go down the recycled 24-26 year old path and expect miracles, we get good games out of those in that category but no consistency. Our success rate with that thought process would have to be less than 30%.

We also spent our summer working with Marshall, Georgiades and Lukosius in the front half and haven't had all 3 together at all this year and we saw Georgiades and Lukosius together for the first time on the weekend.

I don't think we bounce from 10-12th to top 4 but I expect to be right in finals calculations next year.

Agreed that the forwards have not been together but your backs are still ordinary. Sixth highest points against and not difficult to work out 3 of the 5 below

The red period is very unsuccessful, how many players aren't listed over the whole 8 years that you used as an example? That is what I mean, 5 good players over 8 years I wouldn't call a raging success.

We're a better team without Marshall in it, the other two floating around in the forward line excites me though.

Zerk-Thatcher came into the side in round 12 and Ratugolea has played 13 of the 17, his last month probably the best of career. Both of them came into a system last year and we moved to a new system this year. They're both 26.

Sinn, Burgoyne, Jones, Bergman the oldest one is 23.

Our defence has been under the pump all year because our forward line has been a shell.

I can see your drop off coming as quickly as Adelaide in 2019 with few high picks in this draft and not really being able to bring players in unless you move on a bigger name.

What do you mean 5 in 8 years? Sinn, Burgoyne and Evans ( mid season ) were the back line in a prelim final, Visentini was leading the rucks and Lorenz, Berry and Moraes came into the club in the last 18 months, not every kid plays 20 games in their first year.
