listened to it on Audible.
A fortunate life. Pretty amazing life for a kid who didn't go to school and had it really hard growing up

Anyone read Pissants by former Swans player Brandon Jack yet?

"Trainspotting gets munted with A Visit from the Goon Squad in Ted Lasso’s Front Bar in this brutally hilarious, unhinged and at times surprisingly moving insider’s glimpse into one anonymous footy club – and what might happen behind the headlines, off the field and out of sight."

I'd be interested in a few opinions from some actual footy fans rather than from newspaper arts journos.

I've just finished it, actually. It's pretty good, I enjoyed it, although the format of the book takes a bit of getting used to.

Chops and changes in style to suit who's perspective it's told from.

Only 18 bucks at Big W so it's not a huge outlay

There is a bit of a Trainspotting vibe to it, it's pretty loose at times.

Cheers. I just lashed out on a copy. Will report in due course.

So I finished Pissants.

The verdict: Meh.

The artsy-fartsy literary types would call it "postmodern". The book jumps about from chapter to chapter, between different narrators and different modes of presentation. The term "nonlinear" almost fits, but in a nonlinear narrative there is still something holding the individual chapters together. In Pissants there isn't much; almost each chapter is a vignette, unrelated to the others. The only real continuity between chapters involved some bloke backpacking in Europe to get over a breakup - but how this guy was linked to the rest of the characters, apart from a loose understanding that he was a former footballer, was never explored.

I do see the comparison to Trainspotting - but Brandon Jack is not Irvine Welsh.

Not saying that the book was bad as such. It had its moments. Just wasn't my cup of tea.
