Hah, once playing a C Grade game an U16 took a mark in the goal square when we were 5 points up with what must have only been a couple of minutes to go.

I went over to him and told him to kick the **** out of it to try and buy a minute.

He did so, out on the full. I didn't realise that I had to elaborate to try and score a goal as well.

What's described is pretty off.

Yeah i was shown the clip of the last couple of minutes, three times in a row by three different players so instructions must have come from someone.

No free kick for any as well which was interesting, i guess win at al costs is alive and well at some junior cubs

Do what you can to win a GF. No issues at all. Play within the rules.

Yeah, not the best display, right from the first kick following the centre bounce after they took the lead particularly disturbing

Which part of time wasting is within the rules, as mentioned by the umpire director at the game after the siren it should have been a free and 50 meters each time

So, if there was no free kick paid I assume they ran the ball over the line and then kicked it away to waste time. Surely that's a free kick or potentially a yellow card wjich is free kick plus 25m penalty

So major talking point is from the last 2 mins of the game ?
Nothing about the first 78mins of game ?
the Umpiring was ordinary all game long , Houghton got the run of them all day apart from last 2 mins & that's what cost them ?
5.8 to 4.12 is what cost them
Lot of talk about how kids getting brought up , ASk the Houghton parents how they behaved after the game.
Spoke to one PH senior player who got abused by Houghton supporters while he was with his kids on playground , Great stuff !

Which sheep station were they playing for again? Must've been huge for a five-team, Div 5 comp.

Junior sport sucks at times.

I've never seen such a blatant disregard for the rules or can I believe the umpires didn't address it.

Umpires look about the same age as the players, and I would imagine they'd never come across this before.

As has been my experience the majority of the time with young umps in the SANFL Juniors, they only have a basic knowledge of the rules, at best.

First one was a standard OOTF. Next two were bizarre.

I almost missed the last one as I thought it was OOTF, but was over the line already?
At the end of the day its up to the umps to pay it correctly, anyone saying "its just div5" give it a rest. This might be the only opportunity these lads get to winning a flag in their lifetime.

Not the kids I'm having a crack at. Clearly it was an instruction, and I'd generally want my kids to follow their coach's instructions, but any junior coach who tells their players to run the ball over the boundary line and then boot it as far as they can probably doesn't have any sort of feel for the spirit of the game and isn't the role model I'd want my kids to follow.

100% it was coached.

I goal umpired for my daughter's team, we were kicking with a very strong breeze, and the opposition team could barely get it out of their D50.
To make matters harder for the oppo, our girls kept kicking points.
The runner (who shall remain nameless but as a former SANFL player should absolutely know better) then came out and repeatedly told the girl kicking in to "slow it down, walk to get the ball, tie your shoelaces" to burn time off the clock. The 14 year old kid umpiring had no idea what they were doing, or bothered to tell the girl to hurry up.

Karma bit them anyway as we held them scoreless when they had the breeze

Moral of the story is there are some coaches/runners who will do whatever it takes to win.

I'd say given it was D5, there's a fair chance that most, if not all of these kids aren't playing in a year or two.

We’ve had the same with a certain club 2 years running. Both qtrs we kicked with a strong wind last season against them, they called for a stretcher on 3 different occasions. They pulled the same shit this year, we had the breeze in the 2nd qtr, out comes the stretcher for some phantom injury…

Just play the game!!!!!

Have seen it all in comps with no time on. Everything from boundary umpires very slowly walking to retrieve the ball from points / out of bounds if it suited their team. Heard runners telling boundary umpires to throw it in short if they need a defensive throw in to time waste or throw it over the back if there team was chasing a score. Blokes running into opening goals and kicking it 55m over the netting behind the goals.

Worst part is including time on is just going to be a massive barrier for further volunteers to help out on gameday.

Sad really.

Stretcher they should stop the clock? In my daughters GF this year (this is adult D1 ressies though but time does not stop), she had a head clash with her teammate in the 3rd quarter and both needed to come off the ground, and the ump stopped the clock while they were on the ground getting seen too. Never seen it before and not sure if it is an instruction just for a GF or not.
