It might not be dead but someone probably should go and get the defib.

Why can't they come in as planned, split the home games between the existing grounds (Hobart & Launceston) while they sort out the stadium?

The Gold Coast stadium I think was the centre of significant upgrades after the Suns came into the comp.... why ask the Taswegians to have the stadium from day 1?

Cause the Suns (with the giants) were part of a plan to get a 9th game on TV every week.

Tassie doesn't do that, and introduces a somewhat unwanted bye.

The suns also helped expand the game into rugby territory, where as Tassie doesn't draw in new fans to aussie rules. They all have footy teams they follow already.

Easy fix to the bye - bring in team 20 - either Darwin Crocodiles or the Canberra Effwits!

Exactly, while the AFL needs time to source this 20th side, delaying tassie minimises the duration of any potential bye.

Because the AFL don’t really want them. They have moved the goalposts and made it near on possible for it to happen.
When the Tassie government cans it the AFL can wipe their hands of it and come out looking like the good guys.

The roof caveat made it clear the AFL was simply throwing the Devils a bone, they knew Tassie couldn't afford a roofed venue therefore ensuring it would never get off / out the ground.

I disagree a bit.

The AFL dont come out of this looking any good at all because their demands don't pass the pub test of being reasonable.

If the Devils fall through the general perception will be "The AFL made stupid demands that weren't really necessary"

I also dont think the AFL let it fall through because ultimately, they will be wanting to get to 'decent' teams ASAP so they generate greater income.

If the AFL didn't 'really' want Tasmania in the comp they didn't need to let it get as far as it got, they could have continued to shun the idea like they had for the past 30 years.

My guess.....

The stadium will get done but probably not by the 2028 deadline.

The AFL to 'allow' the Devils to spend the first year or whatever at the current stadium provided the stadium deal is signed and built by 2029 or whatever.

Impossible this year
Everyone's onto them about how $hite they are
They will, deservedly, look like the absolute twats that they are
But Dillon will say the AFL are the best they've ever been

Rant over - more likely they will bend over so not to upset everyone and look like useless twats (which they will look like anyway)

If there isn't a team of architects and engineers working on the job now, and probably for the last 6 months, then even on a green fields site having tenders run, won and construction completed of a $1bn roofed stadium on an island 300+kms off mainland Australia in under 2 years would be optimistic, at best.

Why bother with the energy, resources, time, money to throw the bone if you knew it was never going to happen.......

There isnt one logical reason to do that.

1. They 100% want 20 teams there is no secret there.
2. If they didnt want Tasmania as team 19 or 20 they simply could have awarded it to another region like they did with Port, Freo, GC, GWS.

The AFL want Tasmania as the 19th / 20th because there is no other regions that are going to be anywhere near successful, all other options like Canberra or another QLD, SA, WA team would be massive risks and impact the current teams in those states.

The AFL is just a big headed arrogant bully who thinks their more important than they are, they expected the Tassie government to drop to their knees on the first date. Now all a sudden it looks like the AFL might have to take tassie on a date first.
