Round 1 Hostplus SANFLW Match Wraps

Woodville-West Torrens 5.4 (34) drew with Sturt 5.4 (34)
It was a melancholy start to the Hostplus SANFLW League season for Sturt and Woodville-West Torrens, with the sides’ first meeting ending in a draw at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

It was a big day at the Eagles’ home ground, as Sturt looked to secure a win for new coach Ange Foley, whilst the Eagles were celebrating ruck Leah Cutting becoming just the second SANFLW player to reach the 100-game milestone.

The Double Blues got off to a flying start as Millie McCarthy slotted a sensational goal from the pocket, which was backed up by goals from Georgia King and Madeline Nuss (two), leaving the Eagles scoreless in the first quarter at home.

It was a lacklustre second quarter for both teams, with both sides failing to register a score.

King got things underway for Sturt in the third term, finding the scoreboard again to extend her side’s lead out to 34 points at the three-minute mark, before the Eagles finally kicked into gear and came out firing.

Goals to Jiarna Zerella, Alice Tentye and Klaudia O’Neill cut the margin back to 15 points at three-quarter-time as the Eagles looked to continue their momentum from the 2025 season, in which they finished minor premiers and featured in the grand final for the first time.

Marlie Fiegert and Zerella combined for two goals in the final term, with a handful of points levelling the score at 34-all.

Eagles’ South-East product Alice Tentye – who starred for the SANFLW in its clash against the VFLW – continued her excellent form with 23 disposals and 14 tackles, with Ruby Lynch (19 disposals, six marks, five tackles), Lucy Moore (20 disposals, eight tackles) and the milestone-woman Leah Cutting (35 hit outs) also among the best for the home side.

Sturt ball magnet Isobel Kuiper picked up where she left off last year, recording a whopping 37 disposals to go along with nine marks and nine tackles.

Former Tiger Alex Pearce slotted in nicely for the Double Blues with 15 disposals, four tackles and 23 hit outs, with captain Alex Ballard (17 disposals, seven rebound 50s) and Sophie Thredgold (six marks, four tackles) all playing their part for Sturt.

Sturt will now turn its attention to its clash with Glenelg at home on Saturday morning, with the Eagles heading to Richmond Oval to tackle the Bloods on Saturday afternoon.

Central District 8.8 (56) d North Adelaide 4.5 (29)
Central District defeated North Adelaide by 27 points at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

It was a big day for the Doggies, who had premiership hero Shelby Smith return to the side after coming out of retirement, and inaugural coach Shaun Ribbons coach his first game since 2021.

Smith wasted no time in reminding the league on what they had been missing, kicking the Doggies’ first goal and going into quarter time seven points up.

Polly Turner got the Roosters on the board early in the second quarter, before Central responded with four unanswered goals from 50-gamer Dakota Williams, Lauren Breguet, Aoife Berry, and last week’s SANFLW Best on Ground against the VFLW, Mikaylah Antony.

Going into the second half 27 points down, North came out firing with back-to-back goals from Sky Jensen and captain Amber Ward, with new Doggies recruit Ella Randall kicking her first for the club.

North’s Julia Clark found the goals late in the third term to reduce the margin back to 17 points heading into the final term.

Berry and Randall – both recruited from the GWS Academy – combined for two goals in the fourth quarter as the Doggies ran out 27 point winners.

Smith (19 disposals, three clearances), Miyu Endersby (26 hit outs, 10 tackles), Williams (five marks) and Antony (four marks, four tackles) were some of the standouts for the Dogs.

Clark was excellent for the Roosters with 20 disposals, four marks, eight tackles, and five clearances, as Ella Metcalfe (13 disposals, five marks, eight tackles), Jensen (six tackles, four marks, three inside 50s) and former Tiger Lakeisha Sheffield (14 disposals, five clearances) all playing their part for North.

Next up, North will host Norwood at Revo Fitness Oval on Saturday morning, whilst Central take on reigning premiers South Adelaide at X Convenience Oval on Saturday afternoon.

West Adelaide 9.4 (58) d Glenelg 8.6 (54)
West Adelaide came from behind to secure a thrilling four-point win over Glenelg at Magain Stadium.

The Tigers got off to the perfect start with four unanswered goals from star recruit Kiana Lee (two), Eloise Mackereth and Astrid Gooley, giving the Bloods plenty to think about at quarter time as they were faced with a 24-point deficit.

The message from new coach Shane Pill at the first change had an impact as Westies kicked a staggering six unanswered goals in the second term, with majors from Sarah Deed (two), Jemma Ellis, Emily Mableson, Chelsea Newitt and new recruit Alaitz Kelly – giving the Bloods a two-goals advantage at the main break.

Lee kicked her third for Glenelg early in the first term, with the Bloods responding via Woods eight minutes later, before Charlotte O’Sullivan, Cassie McWilliam and Mackereth kicked three goals in succession to give the Bays a six-point lead heading into the final term.

It was Newitt who proved to be the hero for West, keeping her composure to slot her second – levelling the scores at 52 points, before kicking the winning goal shortly after.

Last year’s SANFLW Best and Fairest Zoe Venning picked up where she left off for Westies, amassing 38 disposals, eight marks, four tackles and six inside 50s in her side’s thrilling win.

She was well supported by Newitt (three goals, 17 disposals, five marks, five tackles), Woods (23 disposals, four tackles, five inside 50s), Mableson (21 disposals, four tackles, five inside 50s), and Deed (19 disposals, five marks, four marks, five inside 50s).

New Glenelg recruit Isla Wiencke earned her stripes with an excellent first outing for the Bays with 29 disposals and 10 tackles, with Georgie Fielder (16 disposals, nine tackles, five marks), Mackereth (six marks), and Lee (three goals, 13 disposals, four marks), among the Tigers’ best in a heart-breaking loss.

The Tigers will now turn their attention to their clash with Sturt at Thomas Farms Oval on Saturday morning, as West Adelaide host Woodville-West Torrens at Richmond Oval on Saturday afternoon.

South Adelaide5.10 (40) d Norwood 2.2 (14)
South Adelaide started its premiership defence in style with a 26-point win over Norwood at Magain Stadium.

Melissa Anderson got the Panthers 2026 account off to a flying start with her side’s first major, giving South an eight-point buffer heading into the first break.

An onslaught of goals from South followed in the second term, including majors for from Doreena Hansen, 50-gamer Emily Brockhurst, and debutant Chanel May (two), whilst there was an early goal of the year contender in which Hope Taylor tapped the ball down to May, who kicked it through in spectacular fashion.

Hectorville product Elle Lineage got the Redlegs on the board late in the second term to reduce the margin to 26 points at the main break.

No goals were recorded by either side in the third quarter, with it taking until the sixth minute mark of the final quarter for Norwood young gun Lani Cocks to break through for the Redlegs’ second goal.

But the damage by the reigning premiers was already done as the Panthers ran out 26-point winners at home.

Soriah Moon was prolific for South with 24 disposals, six marks, 18 hit outs and seven clearances. She was well supported by debutant Madison Brown (19 disposals, nine tackles, five marks, five inside 50s), Esther Schirmer (19 disposals, six tackles, five clearances) and Layla Vizgaudis (22 disposals, five tackles, six clearances).

Newly-appointed Norwood captain Jade Halfpenny was excellent in her side’s loss with 25 disposals, six marks, and six inside 50s, with Lani Cocks (19 disposals, eight tackles, five inside 50s), the returning Coby Morgan (21 disposals, six tackles) and Charlee Brooksby (16 disposals, seven marks) among the Redlegs’ best in a disappointing start to 2026.

Norwood will now head to Revo Fitness Oval to take on North Adelaide on Saturday morning, with the Panthers making the journey to The Ponderosa to tackle Central District.

Central District 1.6 (12) lost to South Adelaide 5.6 (36)
South Adelaide remains the only undefeated team in the Hostplus SANFLW League after defeating Central District by four goals at X Convenience Oval.

The Panthers’ Hope Taylor was the lone goal scorer in the first term with the visitors taking a slight seven-point lead into the first break.

Melissa Anderson found the goals in the second quarter for South, before the Doggies’ Shelby Smith continued her stunning return to the Hostplus SANFLW League, kicking a running goal to get the home side on the board late in the second quarter.

There was some wayward kicking in the third term from the Panthers before Emily Brockhurst took a strong grab and converted truly to steady the ship heading into the final quarter.

Taylor kicked back-to-back goals in the fourth quarter to make it three for the game, solidifying South’s win and continuing its premiership defence as the Panthers look to make it three flags in-a-row in 2026.

Former Eagle Olivia Evans made a strong start as a Panther on Saturday afternoon, notching up 16 disposals, five marks, and eight tackles, with Layla Vizgaudis (25 disposals, four tackles, four clearances), Holly Ifould (22 disposals, six marks, four inside 50s), and Caitlin Couch (six marks) among the best for South on the day.

Tashayla Corfield had a day out in the ruck for the Dogs, amassing 30 hit outs and six tackles, as Dakota Williams (18 disposals, six tackles, five clearances), Olivia Leslie (15 disposals, six marks), and Holly Tralaggan (19 disposals, seven clearances, five inside 50s) all performed well in a disappointing loss for Central.

Central District will head to The Parade to take on Woodville-West Torrens this Saturday morning, with the Panthers also making the journey to Norwood to tackle North Adelaide at 12:40pm.

Sturt 9.4 (58) d Glenelg 6.6 (42)
Sturt notched up its first win under new coach Ange Foley defeating Glenelg by 16 points at Thomas Farms Oval.

Georgia King got the Double Blues off to a flying start, kicking the first major of the day, before prized Glenelg recruit Kiana Lee responded accordingly after taking a strong grab, with the Tigers heading into the first break three points up.

It was all Sturt in the second quarter, the home side kicking three goals via Summer Ross, King and Ruby Cunningham, taking a 14-point lead into the main break.

The Double Blues picked up where they left off in the third term, with goals from Edwina Thornquest and Madeline Nuss, before Lee breathed some life into the game for the Tigers, kicking her second of four goals, which was backed up by NSW recruit Isla Wiecke and Astrid Gooley, but the momentum was short lived as King kicked her third late in the quarter.

King and Nuss combined for two goals in the final quarter for Sturt, as Lee kicked back-to-back goals for the Tigers to reduce the final margin back to 14 points.

Georgia Swan (19 disposals, six tackles, seven inside 50s, five clearances), King (four goals, six tackles), Isobel Kuiper (22 disposals, six tackles, seven clearances) and Mille McCarthy (29 hit outs, seven tackles) were all excellent for the Double Blues in a strong win for last year’s preliminary finalists.

North Adelaide 7.3 (45) lost to Norwood 7.5 (47)

There were goals galore in the first term as the Redlegs kicked three unanswered goals from Ashley Baker, Amy Gaedtke and Steph Simmonds, before the Roosters slotted three in-a-row from Polly Turner, Caitlin Hardin and Laura Niejalke, both sides going into the first break with scores locked at 19 points.

Coby Morgan got things underway for Norwood, kicking a brilliant goal from the left pocket, as Simmonds followed suit shortly after with her second major to give the visitors a 13-point lead at the main break.

Norwood’s Nicola Burns was the lone goal scorer in the third term, getting herself on the receiving end of a handball from Simmonds before chipping it through from the goal square to extend the Redlegs’ lead out to 19 points heading into the final term.

North were seemingly not going down without a fight though, with Sasha Hardin kicking the Roosters’ first goal since the 14-minute mark of the first term, which was quickly followed up by Zara Molloy to bring the margin back to seven points early in the final quarter.

Redlegs’ Emma Clark got one back for her side to steady the visitors, but Molloy found the goals again for the Roosters to kick her second, as Teagan Robins ran into an open goal to level the scores with six minutes to go.

Missed shots on goal late in the quarter to Norwood’s Elle Lineage and Charlee Brooksby ultimately got the Redlegs over the line by two points.

Norwood captain Jade Halfpenny had a huge game with 23 disposals, 11 tackles and seven clearances, as Lani Cocks (20 disposals, seven tackles, four clearances), Morgan (18 disposals, seven tackles), and Baker (four marks) proved to be the difference in a tight contest out at Prospect.

Lauren Hoffman was a rock down back for the Roosters, taking seven marks, with Jamie Parish (18 disposals, nine rebound 50s, eight tackles), Ella Metcalfe (23 disposals, four tackles), and Jasmine Dallimore (23 hit outs, six tackles) among the best for North as it still searches for its first win.

The Roosters will now look to their clash with the unbeaten South Adelaide at The Parade this Saturday, with the Redlegs hosting Glenelg later that day.

West Adelaide 0.6 (6) lost to Woodville-West Torrens 13.11 (89)
Woodville-West Torrens demolished West Adelaide by 83 points at Richmond Oval.

Jiarna Zerella kicked the first of the Eagles’ 13 goals, before Klaudia O’Neill got her haul of six started, taking a strong grab and kicking truly to give the visitors a two-goal lead at quarter time.

The Bloods struggled to contain the onslaught of inside 50s from the Eagles, recording 44 to West’s 24, with Leah Cutting and O’Neill finding the goals in the second term as they headed into the main break 28 points up.

O’Neill got things going again for the Eagles, kicking her third and fourth, as Ruby Matthews, Marlie Fiegert, Marie Martino and Cheryllee Waters joined in on the fun to extend the lead out to 61 points at the penultimate break.

Eagles’ midfielder Alice Tentye kicked her side’s 11th goal of the game, getting on the end of a kick from O’Neill and going back to continue the carnage, before O’Neill kicked her fifth and six goals, with Westies going goalless for the game.

O’Neill was superb for the Eagles with six goals, 11 marks (five contested), and 15 disposals, along with Tahlita Buethke (27 disposals, nine marks, five inside 50s), Tentye (23 disposals, five marks, eight tackles) and Marie Martino (16 disposals, 10 marks) among some of the best in a dominate team performance.

South’s Molly Jenkins and Jaidee-Lee Shortridge kicked back-to-back goals for the Panthers to bring the margin back to 11 points midway through the second quarter, however, it was short-lived as Taylah Pearson kicked a huge major to extend the margin back out to 17 points at the main break.

Central District 4.1 (25) d Sturt 3.6 (24)
Central District defeated Sturt by one point in a thriller at X Convenience Oval to advance through to the AAMI Talent League Girls Grand Final.

Inaccurate kicking cost the Double Blues, with Central recording 80 per cent scoring accuracy compared to Sturt’s 33 per cent.

Central’s Annelise Lovell kicked the first major of the day, before Isabella Gray converted from the goal square to give her side a two-point break heading into quarter time.

Tara Lord kicked back-to-back goals for the Dogs, with Jessie Merrigan converting from a free kick to reduce the margin to four points at half-time.

Central’s Annelise Lovell was the lone goal scorer in the third term with the game seemingly said and done at three quarter time. But the Double Blues weren’t going down without a fight.

Merrigan kicked her second for the Double Blues to bring the margin back to four points, but it was not to be for Sturt as it struggled to convert – kicking three points to go down by one point to the minor premier.

North Adelaide 4.6 (30) d South Adelaide 3.6 (24)

In slightly difficult conditions, the Roosters had an excellent opening quarter with goals from Aprielle Crooks, Keira Copeland and Zara Molloy setting their side up nicely for the remainder of the match.

Olivia Evans got the Panthers on the board midway through the second term, capitalising on a North turnover to breathe some life into the game for South.

Heading into the second half 14 points up, Molloy kicked her second major for the Roosters, before Evans took a strong grab directly in front of goal, going back and kicking her second for South.

Tabitha Prosser was the only other goal scorer for the Panthers, kicking one early in the final quarter.

Roosters’ ruck Jasmine Dallimore was superb with 26 hit outs and nine tackles, with Jamie Parish (19 disposals, nine rebound 50s), Ella Metcalfe (four marks), and Caitlin Hardin (seven tackles, six clearances) all excellent.

Panthers young gun Emma Charlton recorded 22 disposals, 11 tackles, seven clearances and five inside 50s, as Melissa Anderson (20 disposals, 11 tackles), Layla Vizgaudis (23 disposals, six clearances, five tackles), and Esther Schirmer (17 disposals, 11 tackles) all battled hard for South.

Central District 5.10 (40) lost to Woodville-West Torrens 8.7 (55)
Woodville-West Torrens soared to the top of the ladder with a 15-point win over Central District at The Parade.

Lauren Breguet opened the Doggies’ account, kicking the first goal of the SAPN Energised Round at Norwood, before Eagles’ Popi Gikas and Klaudia O’Neill kicked back-to-back majors to give their side a one-goal lead heading into the first break.

O’Neill was seemingly picking up where she left off last week, bagging two more in the second term, with Central kicking six consecutive behinds.

Tesharna Maher and Karissa Searle combined for two majors early in the second half to level the scores, but the Eagles’ Cheryllee Waters and Abbie Butler extended the lead out to 14 points at the penultimate break.

After four behinds, Marlie Figert kicked an excellent running goal for the Eagles, as Central’s Jovanka Zecevic and Breguet combined for two to minimise some of the scoreboard damage, before O’Neill kicked her fourth goal, and her 10th in two weeks, from a strong grab in the goal square.

Alice Tentye continued her stellar form, collecting 24 disposals and 10 tackles, with Tahlita Buethke (18 disposals, seven tackles), Lucy Moore (nine tackles), and O’Neill (four goals, four marks) all excellent for the Eagles.

Central’s Dakota Willams was relentless with her pressure, laying 12 tackles, and was well supported by Breuget (20 disposals, four tackles), Aoife Berry (19 disposals, seven inside 50s, six tackles), and Miyu Endersby (45 hit outs).

West Adelaide 2.3 (15) drew with Sturt 2.3 (15)
West Adelaide and Sturt shared the points on Saturday afternoon, with scores locked on 2.3 (15) at The Parade.

In far from ideal conditions, Sturt’s Summer Ross was the lone goal scorer in the first term, kicking an excellent major from the right-hand pocket.

Westies’ Jemma Ellis made the most of a Double Blues turnover, taking a composed grab in front of goal to give the Bloods a slight two-point lead at the main break.

Chelsea Newitt extended the lead out to eight points early in the third quarter, before Double Blues’ midfielder Gemma Grivell kicked her first goal in the Hostplus SANFLW League.

Zoe Venning was up to her usual tricks for West Adelaide, with 29 disposals, eight tackles, seven inside 50s, and six clearances, with Iilish Ross (22 disposals, 10 tackles, eight clearances), Emily Mableson (10 tackles), and Tess Huxtable (42 hit outs) among the best for the Bloods.

Double Blues’ Isobel Kuiper (24 disposals, 13 tackles), Georgia Swan (21 disposals, nine tackles, five marks), Lily Whiteman (10 tackles), and Claudia Edmonds (15 disposals) were all excellent for Sturt in its second draw of the season.

Norwood 7.13 (55) d Glenelg 2.3 (15)
Norwood had a resounding 40-point win over Glenelg at The Parade.

Capping off a big day at Woods Street, Glenelg’s Kori Webb kicked her first major in the Hostplus SANFLW League to get things underway, before Hectorville product Elle Lineage slotted the Redlegs’ first as they went into the first break two points up.

Cassie McWilliam put the Bays back in front early in the second term, but from the seventh minute mark of the second quarter, it was all Norwood.

The Redlegs kicked six unanswered goals from Mykaela Walker, Stephanie Simmonds (two), Nicola Burns and Lani Cocks, as the Tigers struggled to stop the onslaught of inside 50s from the Redlegs (42 to 27).

Newly minted Norwood captain Jade Halfpenny was everywhere with 28 disposals, eight tackles, six clearances and five marks, as Lani Cocks (26 disposals, 10 inside 50s, seven tackles), Ashley Baker (11 tackles, five clearances), and Amy Gaedtke (25 hit outs, six tackles) all continue to impress in season 2026.

Isla Wiencke (26 disposals, eight tackles, six clearances), Georgie Fielder (22 disposals, six tackles), co-captain Asha Dufour (eight tackles), and Webb (six inside 50s, five marks, five tackles) were all excellent for the Tigers as they still look to secure their first win.

Norwood wins inaugural AAMI Talent League Girls Grand Final

Norwood 7.0 (42) d Central District 3.2 (20)

Norwood created history on Sunday, defeating Central District by 22 points to claim the inaugural AAMI Talent League Girls premiership at X Convenience Oval.

After cruising to a 47-point victory over South Adelaide the week prior, the Redlegs were hot favourites with the Dogs having to fight for their spot in the grand final with a one-point win over the Double Blues.

The two teams previously met in Round 3 at Richmond Oval, with Central having a huge 59-point win over Norwood, but it was a different tale this time at the Ponderosa.

Della McCracken opened the scoring for the Redlegs, with Doggies’ Annelise Lovell and Norwood’s Amelia Kelly also finding the goals in the first quarter – the Redlegs taking a one-goal buffer into the first break.

Kailee Colbung-Ware and Taylah Pearson combined for two goals in the second quarter, as the Redlegs made the most of their 28 inside 50s.

The Redlegs’ goals kept on coming – McCracken kicking her second before Lilian Thomas kicked two in a row, soccering her first and two minutes later doing almost the same thing to extend the lead out to 35 points.

Bulldog Sophie Bevis broke the run of Norwood goals with an excellent running goal later in the third term, with teammate Tara Lord kicking Central’s third late in the fourth term to bring the final margin to 22 points.

Norwood’s Ella Anderson was judged best afield, the midfielder recording 25 disposals, six clearances, six inside 50s and five tackles in her side’s victory.

Emmerson Lihou (10 tackles) was relentless with her pressure, with Mia Wood (21 disposals, seven clearances), and Amelia Kelly (21 disposals) among some of the best performers in an historic victory for Norwood.

Sienna Antony starred for Central with 29 disposals, nine tackles and seven clearances, and was well supported by Indianna Nelson (18 disposals, 22 hit outs, eight clearances, six inside 50s), Ella Sergi (10 tackles), and Amalia Musolino (15 disposals, six rebound 50s) .
