A blunder is a nice way to put it. Like come on the guy was hearing evidence whilst he was driving on his way to a open inspection.

Bloody hell, the AFL is signing off on some strange stuff at the moment.

They didn't need to address the other issues raised, so we don't know whether they would have overturned the findings regarding what Butters said to the ump.

Interesting that they quashed the Tribunal's decision given the other two panel members presumably were not affected by driving.

AFL's way of fixing what was wrong without admitting they got it wrong.

The AFL argued before the Appeal hearing that Johnson's antics did not have a material impact on the case, so I don't agree that the outcome yesterday can be chalked up to the AFL as you suggest, although I do agree that it was the most convenient outcome for the AFL.

Of course the AFL would say that, apparently they changed the timing of the hearing twice, and he was trying to reschedule work commitments to suit.

What happened was it was scheduled for 1:30, JJ said yes. It then late got changed to 3:30.

He probably then should’ve pulled out but it may have been too late. Then he should have got someone else to show the house (real estate agent)

Thoughts on Zak Butters, would you be happy with your club committing $2m pa and 7 year contract?

Great player and would be an asset to any team, don't get me wrong, however at what cost?

I'd prefer to spread the $'s across the list to retain other stars, who won't be at Zak's level, however this depth is the key to contend.

Look at Geelong, Sydney, Brisbane and how they retain their list with no doubt many players taking unders, but they get success. If Zak was to go to any of these he would need to take a haircut on what he could earn elsewhere.

I'm not a fan of dropping $2m a year on one player, as Dutchy says you tie up alot of resources on one player that's why I don't see Geelong a player in the Butters scramble.

Can the Dogs pay Butters $7-900k more than Bontempelli?

Butters to WB to be their next marquee midfielder for next 5-10 years.

Bont to Geelong on reduced wages to chase that final premiership.

Gryan Miers to Port to keep Booney happy.

Should be a cap on what you can pay a player, market is being driven to ridiculous prices & pricing the players original club out of the market (Not in the Butters/Port case though, so no bias here).

St Kilda a good case, paying crazy overs just to bring the players they bought in to still be an average side & weakening other clubs at the same time.

Where does the ceiling stop on salaries for players?

With the Tassie side coming in, and talent already diluted, plus the view to get to 20 teams eventually - I don't understand how clubs can survive if the norm becomes paying players North of $900k p/a?

Just follow Geelong's model, players come for the "lifestyle"

Thats the other part with Zak, the way he plays I think he will be done by 32, so potentially only 7 more seasons
