Isnt it funny on the radio & news today & tonight how they rave on how cobbys back after beating paringa, they got beaten by Lyrup no excuses players out or not, both teams had players missing, cobby can be beaten, and lyrup showed that hard, smart football wins you games doesnt it recollect?

Correct it does but history shows me you need to be doing that in Sept History also displays to me that you need to live in the moment Lyrup V Cobby was two weeks ago move on. Good football teams win in Sept see you then, and we can continue this discussion then.

Didnt see anything harder than any other game i have played in the competition.
smarter????
i wouldnt say putting one of your best players in a negating role too smart? (but thats my opinion)
To me one bloke got you back into that game (after being down by 5 goals early) on his own in 10 minutes of football and then the rest of the team lifted and momentum continued to carry you blokes on
Not taking anything away from Lyrup that day but as recollect said gone now.
just maybe lyrup gave us a Wake up call
Sides do have bad days Fs!
Just hope you dont get this side on a good day!

Sympathies to Paringa's Kane Aston on his broken leg. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.
A big blow for the Swans.

Bradman & Recollect you have a point there, footy is more mental than physical and if either team have their head screwed on this year is there for the taking, but this yrs finals series wont be a walk in the park, and the 2nd semi is at lyrup and if my memory is right thats where you guys lost your 1st game of the year, but like what you said finals are in september and is a completely different ball game, have a good week off.

Is there any word on a Zone squad. Haven't seen or heard anything, considering it really is only a week away. you would think that the new zoning of MMBB would hold us in a better position than the past.

Is there any Tanking being done in the Indy comp this year ?
Did Cobby tank against Lyrup 2 weeks ago ? ( The lost they needed )
Will Cobby tank against Paringa in the second last round to denial Lyrup a home 2nd semi final ? (If the opportunity arose )
Sorry to hear about Kane Aston's leg Good bloke

Interesting question that, I remember a conversation with coming up about Moorook tanking last year's final game (against Wunkar), which would have denied Lyrup a place in the finals. The coach was given the idea and basically said what you'd expect about "can't do that" and Moorook went on to beat Wunkar easily as expected.

Oddly enough, Lyrup went on to knock Moorook out of the Grand Final race 2 weeks later.
Wunkar posed no real threat in a finals campaign last year, yet Lyrup came within a quarter of footy to nearly snatch a premiership after winning only 5 minor round games!

With Lyrup and Paringa likely to finish second and third, and home finals at stake for both, whats to say that Cobby can't make that decision for themselves in the last game?
*INSIDE RODNEY's MIND*:......."Hmmm, who would we like to play at Lyrup in the 2nd semi? Lyrup or Paringa? I think this week I'll rest all the boys and play the colts."

Paringa have a "morale-boosting"win over a depleted cobby line up and have the final round off, finish second, and are fresh for the 2nd semi against Cobby again at Lyrup.

Or, Cobby win, Paringa finish third and play at Paringa, and Lyrup finish second and play at Lyrup.

Interesting........?

Does it happen?

Has it before?

I'll bet Big V wishes he'd tanked that last game!

Ask yourself this - What do you strive to win more in footy, games or premierships?

You can never really as a coach be doing your job telling your team to lose, but you are the one who is responsible, you could easily rest your best players, play others out of position to experiment a bit, and just tell your team to go out there and have fun. Take a hanger, kick a torp, carton for a drop-punt goal," ect.

No-one remembers a game they lost "back-whenever" but you never forget a flag.

No if you do that you're an idiot.
Noone in their right mind would deliberately lose a match and if they did then they shouldn't be coaching.
