I saw him play when I was a kid too. Good ruckman.

I could believe that. Tony was intelligent and had a dry sense of humour. I not seen any evidence either run in the Williams family.Adelaide Hawk wrote:Yes, a very good ruckman. 6'4" tall and 13 stone wringing wet. I recall a funny story about Tony Clarkson, I think Neil Kerley told it. He was chosen in the ruck for SA against Victoria in a state game. The coach Fos Williams was addressing the team pre-match.Psyber wrote:I knew Tony "Doc" Clarkson long after he had retired from playing with Sturt and was running the Renal Transplant Unit at the QEH.

He walked up to Doc, eyeballed him and said "I don't want any of that Sturt checkside crap Tony, I want you to meet these guys right up the front!!!". Clarkson thought of the Victorian ruckman of the day ... "Nicholls, Schultz, Ditterich, Farmer and Teasdale". He replied to Williams, "Foster, there's one thing you ought to know. The application of physical force is not my particular forte".
Apparently Fos' eyes were spinning because he didn't have a clue what Doc was talking about, and it took everything for other players not to burst out laughing.

He worked under Jim Lawrence at QEH, and then took over from him for a while before going to the RAH. I don't know whether he was ever officially named "Director" at QEH.McAlmanac wrote:Psyber wrote:I knew Tony "Doc" Clarkson long after he had retired from playing with Sturt and was running the Renal Transplant Unit at the QEH.

Doc Clarkson was Director of the Renal Unit at RAH.

He played in 1 or 2 premierships in the late 60's with Sturt, quite an unusual name, quite a quirky guy, used to tell one or two stories about driving his hippy wagon to the footy, may even have slept in it one night before a GF..
