It'd be a shame to see him go only to have someone else step in if Sturt suddenly get some finance again and reap the rewards (similar to Jar's timing).

wedgie, didn't that happen to sticks when he took over from carman ??

How many clubs were well off financially in 2002 and the years previous? Seems only the last 2-3 years that clubs like the Eagles and North have stepped up to at least be competitive with Central. All this rubbish of financial hardship Sturt supporters go on about is crap IMO. Player for player they have still been as strong as other clubs and some of these players have been recruits from other SANFL clubs (Atkinson, Squire, Beveridge) and how many have left because they haven't been paid enough? There is still a salary cap so unless Sturt a paying well under, they're still on an even playing field.

Feel free to compare Sturts financial records from that year and the team they beat in the GF.
The difference between Strut and other teams that were in financial strife was that Sturt won the premiership.
That's the whole point.
Even playing field my arse, but Sturt were the only club good enough to not let it impact on the ground.
Sturt wouldn't have been close to filling out the salary cap where didn't Centrals get fined for going over?
Except for Sturt and Norwood in 2006 its an even playing field and its no coincidence the premierships table's completely different to 2002.

Christ, its not as though I'm biased, I dislike Sturt more than most clubs but any reasonable person with half a brain can't help but respect their performances with the financial constraints they've had on them. You've got to look at things objectively sometimes. Im not putting Central's achievements down, they deserve fully what they've achieved over the years but Sturts achievements when they won their last flag with the imabalance they faced in spending money on players is very commendable. My club North certainly couldn't do it mind you I blame Hart more than the finances.

Sticks has alot of respect from people with in the club and im pretty sure that if he wanted to stay on as senior coach that would be the case.

He is doing the correct thing with what he has at the moment and I am really pleased that he is playing kids like Paley - Kurtze - Hurley and so on !!!

Yes we have had some bad games this year and unlike our dreaded wooden spoon fest in the late 80's and early 90's we have been very competitive in parts this year - I at least see that with taleneted kids we are playing that we will start to turn it around in the near future !!!

Hopefully with our 2 new venues we can start recruiting some top pick players in to the Sturt side !!!
It is what it is !!!

also...after 02 we had about 6 or so guys with over 1200 games experience retire and not enough talents or experience was able to be recruited after that....we slowly went down hill afterwards due to those retirings and less money to spend on recruits...

the rumours are pretty strong that Sticks wont be coaching next year.

as for there last premiership a number of supporters feel that they just got lucky and got centrals on a bad day.

no they are sturt supporters and they feel that by looking back on what has happened that they were lucky to win it.

sturt havent done a lot since

the communication between senior coach and assistant coaches is almost non-existent.

most of the players are too busy playing poker

What a ridiculous statement. All premiers/winners need a bit of luck – any sport , any competition. But in the main its always earned – through the qualifying round, then the finals series, and ultimately on GF day. I remember watching the game as a neutral spectator – Centrals had a red-hot-go but Sturt were just a bit too good on the day (my own opinion is that Mattner turned it Sturt’s way).

Finances have only been brought up by their own supporters since they have been losing. I don't think finances alone are a valid excuse. Player for player they were still equal of any in the competition. They won the premiership in 2002, congratulations, why wouldn't they? On one hand you respect Sturt for being successful because they were in trouble financially, but on the other hand, who's fault was it that they were in trouble financially? Is it finances that have caused them to lose the amount of finals they have lost since 2002 or could it possibly have something to do with the coach and the team?

glenelg supporter saying Sturt havent done much since their last premiership :?
But it was more than a victory for Greece. It was a stirring example to free people throughout the world of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refuse to submit to tyranny.

I should clarrify my statement as I can see where you're coming from even though we disagree.

I respect the Sturt Football side of things immenseley for what they achieved.
I have no respect for the Sturt Administrative side of things but things MAY be changing.

I can see why you're shitty though as Sturt has achieved more in the last 10 years than the Eagles have IMHO. (I should be shitty too as they achieved more than North but I'm over it)
