Re: One test wonders
Yeah he's fortunate to even be getting the odd game for the Jellybacks let alone ever playing for Australia again in the serious stuff.

Im starting to think that too. He has been messed around a bit by the Australian selectors. I would have liked to see them stick with him as our main Spin Option for the long term.

At the beginning of the ABC documentary on the Centenary Test, they have a quick grab from Hans Ebeling. I think he was the secretary of the Melbourne Cricket Club. He said it was 1973 and he was researching something else when he realised it was nearly 100 years from the First Test Match, so he decided they should do something about it.

Re: One test wonders
Cheers, I think our one test wonders deserve a bit more recognition.
They've done something we all dream of.
I'll look into Hans' history.

The funny part of that was SA's Wayne Phillips jokingly rang the ACB and asked what time he should be at the game ... they took him seriously and didn't know how to break it to him

Flip has form in this area, he also nominated for the AFL draft at one stage, before there was criteria to meet prior to registration.

That was the test where AB refused to go (at first) after learning that Mark Waugh and his good mate Geoff Marsh had been dropped after poor form in the first 4 tests of the summer v India.
- AB relented
- Geoff Marsh never played for Aust again
- Mark Waugh, having replaced his brother in the test side the season before, came back and went on to much bigger things (as did his brother!)
- Tom Moody was the other player who came into the side and held his spot through the following series in Sri Lanka, then left the test side for good
In between signatures .....

That's true, and as far as I know he still has the letter of acceptance framed behind his bar at home. He only nominated to get a letter of rejection from the AFL, but he ended up getting a letter accepting him into the draft. Nobody can work out why because his letter to the AFL was the most ridiculous application of all time ... but the AFL took it seriously
