Statistically, Adelaide averages 3 earthquakes of 5.0+ a century. Last one that was 5+ was in 1954 IIRC. That one tonight does not mean it was a "warm up" for something bigger - usually aftershocks are smaller (if they occur).

Yes......
Personally, not at all. There's tremors like this all the time...

Re: EarthQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQuake
Felt it here in Salisbury North. Thought it was either a bus, a train or a plane (but couldn't nail which one it was), then go on Facebook and there's a dozen status updates about earthquake, and realise crap it's an earthquake.
There were reports of people caling 000, and the numerous Facebook groups. Me, first thing I did was go straight onto Yahoo Messenger to tell my cousin in Boston all about the earthquake

Before I go to bed, I just realised something a bit weird
Our dog would not come out of our room tonight and was acting quite strange - which we thought was very weird.
Did she know something
Anyone elses pets act strange tonight?

I did get a bit worried about our cat and ran into the lounge room to find him still asleep

A 3.8 Richter Scale earthquake rocked Adelaide and the surrounding suburbs last night.
At 12.15am, Geoscience Australia seismologist David Jepsen said the quake hit at 11.27pm with an epicentre somewhere in the Adelaide Hills.
"It's located in a population centre so expected to be felt quite widely," Mr Jepsen said.
Tells us below if you felt the earth move
And the feeling would have been even stronger for multi-storey apartment dwellers.
"If you're in a building of many floors the shaking would be amplified, apartments or tall buildings in the city."
However, Mr Jepsen said it was unlikely there would be any aftershocks or major damage from tonight's quake.
"Something of this size, it's highly unlikely there would be any damage."
Adelaide's 1954 earthquake measured 5.4 on the Richter Scale it was 1000 times more powerful than tonight's quake.
Police and Metropolitan Fire Service spokesmen said there had been a significant amount of calls to triple 0, however there were no reports of damage at 12.38pm.
Callers to radio said the tremor had been felt from Murray Bridge to Gawler and the Bureau of Meteorology confirmed the quake rocked buildings from Monarto to Salisbury.

I live near the Modbury hospital and it was quite strong here, it started as a rumble deep under the ground then all the glass in the windows began to rattle across the house and you could actually see the walls rocking, when it gets light I will check around the house for damage, but all I can see so far is the usual crack between the dining room and lounge room ceiling having opened up again.

Yes HH3, definitely felt it @ Modbury North. My missus thought the contents of our wardrobe were falling out, the doors were rattling that much. She woke up because of it. I thought there was someone at our back door (which is a set of bi-fold/cafe doors), then the computer monitor started shaking. The whole thing would've been done and dusted in 5 seconds.

Just read about it. I was asleep but the missus felt it, she said the dogs jumped up in unison out of their sleep and started barking. We're in Peterhead(Port area) so a fair way away

Re: EarthQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQuake
I live in Blakeview and felt it as well,
I actually thought my wife turned on our split reverse cycle air condition with our air vents. It makes a loud ratling noise when it starts up or sounded like when you have a jet flying really low to the ground.
I yelled out to her why you turning the bloody air conditioning on but she was fast asleep.
WOW thats what it was scary.

Slept through it, bugger. Not every day you get to experience an earthquake here in little old Adelaide.
