Re: Clubs in strife
It shouldn't be up to the clubs, when I played in the Western Suburbs Juniors the limit on teams was 28 players and at various points Port District North Haven Rosewater Riverside Ethelton Flinders Park West Lakes Woodville South Henley all had good sides. It was a good league so i see no point changing it.
I have a problem. It's to do with the little man, the squashed-in French man, the naked little squashed up hairy boy! You know! With the hand feet

Would vice-versa be greedy?
I remember when I was coming through Hectorville one junior season suddenly had PNU's premiership side of the preceding two years.
Free registration and boots were the allegations.

Greedy is the nicest way you can put it, the most accurate would be 'wrong'.

Re: Clubs in strife
Can we please get back on topic as to why SENIOR clubs aren't successful instead of why junior comps are unfair?

that is half the problem the super clubs use someof the junior cash to build the senior playing lists rather then focus on the junior aspect of it
its like the AFL you have the rich clubs and then the poor clubs we just got a lot more poor clubs and the rich clubs benefit from it so areas that are in development compared to older areas who have seen a big change in the people come into the suburb that dont want to play football

Re: Clubs in strife
So with all this talk of how unfair the junior comps are, do we bring back the proposition of the SAAFL running juniors too?

not really they just need to work together to work out a solution rather then both ignore the problem

Re: Clubs in strife
Everyone has ignored it so far, so why wouldn't you join your juniors in a league where you know the rules will do their best to ensure a more even playing field?

Re: Clubs in strife
on one hand...
huge struggle if a club has no juniors
even worse if that club is not prepared to pay players
---------------------------------------------
on the other hand
for clubs who do have juniors, they too deserve a slice of the pie, the community as a whole is more important than a club or an individual player who sadly must be told to go elsewhere.
they also have the responsibility to nurture their under 18s into the senior ranks, instead of expecting them to just show up, else your whole juniors system no matter how strong is useless if no juniors are moving up to the seniors

Because who wants to get to an 8am Under 8 game at Smithfield when they live at Mitchell Park?

Re: Clubs in strife
Agree with FC stay on the topic, there is actually a Juniors thread in the SAAFL page that these junior discussions can be had in

Re: Clubs in strife
But, there might be merit in suggesting the structure of the Junior system is affecting the sustainability of senior clubs

Edit - I don't mean going to Smithfield, I mean MP having to play Smiffies

I maight be way off track with this but I was under the impression that the SANFL were handing over the junior comps to perhaps the SAAFL due to the fact they have no time, money or resources to look after juniors.
Sorry FC no more posts on juniors....but they do effect a clubs longevity (spelling).
Opinions and bumholes..you either have one or are one IMO

Re: Clubs in strife
I agree Turk and it's very apparent that the clubs who struggle with juniors see the merits where the super clubs will feel victimised.
Unless you had pokies, or very generous sponsors, it would very much even out the playing field at senior level which would in turn potentially stop situations like we find some clubs in now.

Where did anyone say threat?
and if you really believe you'd have kiddies spanning the state to play a game of footy that doesn't even keep score, you've got marbles in your head.
and yes, that's an insult
