For 2023, a loss of $342,000 which follows a loss of $164,000 in 2022.
I’m not sure how they turn it around….

Winning games will help obviously but that alone isn’t going to turn the club’s financial situation around.

Went to 3 Westies home games last year as a neutral supporter as I did at the Bay (1 game) and Unley Oval (2 games).UK Fan wrote:Not win 5 wooden spoons in a row would be my guess re: turning it aroundWolf Pack wrote:West Adelaide are in real strife and not just on field…

There’s no atmosphere or excitement at all at Richmond Oval.
I know winning games helps but it’s like everyone there is waiting for the doors to be closed.
Even getting food and drinks seems a hassle to the staff.
I hope they can turn it around both on and off field but it’s going to need a lot of people and money to do so.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Re: SANFL 2024
Winning games doesn't guarantee anything, what they need is members to sign up and they need those members to attend games and support the licensed premises. If they think the answer is pokies and more pokies then they're shot.
It's an interesting area surrounding Milner Road. When I lived there in the 90's the population was already ageing, can only imagine what it's like now.
Hard to see any long term future for them though, even with the SANFL controlling them.

If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

West-Woodville-West Torrens coming up? nah hopefully they can find a way to get through. I think we still have a fairly large debt as well. Would be good to know how many clubs are debt free atm

^^^^ Not sure what this means regarding WWT. They had a combined operating profit of $504,075

Your club has done really well since merging with a small supporter base, no doubt about that.goddy11 wrote:topshelf wrote:West-Woodville-West Torrens coming up? nah hopefully they can find a way to get through. Re: SANFL 2024
Too much of a mouthful. Just use the first name of WA (West), the last name of WWT (Torrens). Use the West uniform design and keep the colours simple. Say, blue and gold. Base the senior men at Richmond and the juniors and women at Woodville. Perfect!topshelf wrote:West-Woodville-West Torrens coming up? nah hopefully they can find a way to get through. Actually Booney we in the area are still ageing not sure how I’m still alive and kicking yes many non eagles fans wished the head injury and then bowel tumour and cancer got me still goingBooney wrote:Winning games doesn't guarantee anything, what they need is members to sign up and they need those members to attend games and support the licensed premises. There are young families around the oval now footy fans no idea My landlord owns most of the properties in the area . If you recall the council building and library across the road was an old age home or units . Now multi story units still got a third to build to low income earners.
So it could change if the young ones like footy
West did get the Thebarton area used to be sacred ground not sure about residents there many are anti crows who protest in port gear online lol

Sturt's financial turnaround over the last decade has been remarkable. Literally millions better off. It won't get any easer running a SANFL club in the future, so hope they invest the funds wisely.

100% agree, I have enormous respect for those who were, and still are, responsible for the turnaround.Ronnie wrote:Sturt's financial turnaround over the last decade has been remarkable. They did it by making hard decisions, including deliberately bringing people in from outside and appointing independent directors, and to not be afraid to challenge the current state.
Believe me, a lot of Boards are extremely well intentioned, but leave their ‘business brains’ at the door when they meet and deliberate on decisions of importance, and deliberately exclude or resist involving independent opinion from outside. There are also some who will not do the hard yards required and assume that the SANFL, local council, financiers, etc will just bail them out or will not call in outstanding loans.
I have little knowledge of the specific issues confronting West (other than what is publicly known), but suggest seeking guidance from Sturt (which I’m sure they’d be happy to share) would be a great start for them to turn things around.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Re: SANFL 2024
100% agree with this comment. It's very difficult for the oldies to recognise that for a club to exist in the modern day, they need to move with the times, or get ahead of the times. Hopefully it doesn't take clubs going to the wall for them to realise it's time to change.dedja wrote:100% agree, I have enormous respect for those who were, and still are, responsible for the turnaround.Ronnie wrote:Sturt's financial turnaround over the last decade has been remarkable. Re: SANFL 2024
This is really impressive. We only made a profit of $64k last year, if you take out the Football Park land distribution. Reduced our debt by $441,517 but still owe the council $1m, which is a bit of a worry.FootyFanatic wrote:It's AGM season, so the financial reports will be released so we know how clubs are going profit / loss wise.
Sturt had their AGM last night and reported a 10th year in a row of profit, this year it was $ 828,378-00 profit with $ 300,000-00 of that being final Football Park land distribution.
Club has nearly $ 2,000,000-00 in the bank and $ 1,200,000-00 in an Investment Fund.
A pretty good turnaround by the clubs management and board from there perilous position not that long ago.
