Re: SAAFL Div 5 & 5R (2010)
why is it stupid people with no idea come on here and say they're paying this, they're paying that! at the end of the day i believe at least 9 out of every 10 clubs pay some or even most of there A grade side so why do people even care what others pay out? maybe some should just concentrate on what there own club is doing.
you've gota keep on keep'n on .........

Which club isnt paying out of the 10 then?
There is 1 or 2 clubs that give cash for best players and thats it. Dees this mean they are "paying players" because its not the same ones getting it every week?

It must be that time of the month again when the paying of players is debated FFS!
We are a drinking team with a football problem!

Re: SAAFL Div 5 & 5R (2010)
Why don't all the clubs across the whole amateur league sign some kind of treaty that states no club will pay players and any club caught doing so will be banned from the league for 12 months or something like that. That way we can weed out all the greedy "shop themselves around" players, the smaller struggling clubs will still be here in 10 years time and we can return to what this competion is actually called - South Australia AMATEUR Football League.
Imagine how much money could be saved across all the divisions and spent on other things around the clubs? It's not like we win prizemoney for winning flags, so why invest so much?
Just a thought...

Most sensible thing I've heard on here, ever! 7 or 8 years ago there were players that were enticed to other clubs each season and it was no big deal teams generally kept the main group and gained and lossed a couple. Now there are forums and pages in the saafl newletter dedicated to player movement. Players that I have played with and against that in my opinion are OK, handy players for their clubs but certainly do not have teams built around them are getting hundreds of dollars to play in the country or in discussions with clubs that 5 years ago they wouldn't have even known existed.
Added to this that almost every under age player that comes through that has played or even trained with the U/18s at a league club or strung a couple good games together in the very mediocre Amatuer League U/18 comp is putting their hand out or shopping themselves around. I realise that this is a generalisation and there are plenty of young players that do the right thing but this sense of entitlement before earning it, will be a major problem for clubs in the future.
It's not just my club but there are many others where the whole feel to amatuer footy has changed dramatically in a short period of time and almost none of it for the better.
I will predict that in several years many clubs that have been around for decades will have folded.
I have a problem. It's to do with the little man, the squashed-in French man, the naked little squashed up hairy boy! You know! With the hand feet

They certainly do. Just look at last season's Premier. I think most people assumed that large amounts of cash were spent in order to the the result. I suspect that the money that was spent was just a fraction of what was the general assumption.....
It has become a fact of life. Like death and taxes, Football Clubs will pay money to their players. Some hide it, some admit it and others do not pay at all. The key is not to overspend and create a bad club culture.

I didn't take you for a Utopian, SD
At the end of the day, those greedy players that shop themselves around won't have much to show from their footballing years. Sure they may have had a bit of extra coin in their pockets for the weekend, but they'll never have played 150+ games for a single club while forging life-long mates with whom you have memories worth reminiscing about. The uSheep(TM) generation always has seemed a little short sighted though

I think you'll find LM that WHUFC was referring to 10K for the soccer coach, not alluding to Smithfield paying 10k for Jossa.
Tom Jenkins, I remember playing with him at EPFC in the B's. He would have been 16-17, good skills, good bloke but like you said, lacks the dedication. However, does support a great football team. How long has he been out there for LM?
It will be his third season I think, nice lad, he's pretty good at poker and gets into a lot of big tournaments which keeps him out a few times.

Totally agree, I'd love to see some return on investment figures from some of these clubs who dish out big dollars each year.
Like SD said, money should be invested into the club to make it more appealing to outsiders- rather than having to buy half a new side each year.
At the end of the day, if you have a good club and great people within that club, you won't struggle to attract players.

I dont care!
I cant believe this topic gets brought up each year...
If a team wins a flag because they paid players, then good luck to them, if they dont, then good luck to them!!
