It felt weird writing that so I researched:

Well there you go, make as much noise as you want then.

Business as usual at my end tomorrow. Possibly a trip to the movies across the long weekend to beat the heat.

You're right.
Prior to 1994, however, Australia Day had been celebrated with a public holiday on the nearest Monday.
It really is our generation, Gen X, that has enshrined Australia Day to its current almost mythologised standing.
As a day when I was a kid, I remember it as a holiday, with muted public commemorations (like Anzac Day, which Baby Boomers had almost let wither and die).
Then when John Howard was elected in 1996, he really ramped up the rhetoric, think 'Black armband history', about Australia Day and Anzac Day and the level of patriotism around both these days has grown significantly to what we have now.

I think the day was in balance for most of my younger years. For mine the trouble started with the Aussie Bogan Cronulla stuff that went down.... whenever that was. I can see the other side of the coin with the invasion day stuff. But much like Apology day, I am unsure what I am apologizing for..... History?

For me, I'll just jump in my Corolla to go to Dan Murphy's to get a bottle of Canadian Club and a slab of Sol then go home to watch music clips on youtube on my Sony TV and think how lucky I am to be an Australian.

Will you, however, continue to solely invest your dollars in the Australian Stock Market?

In all honesty, it does sadden me that we are forced to buy imported things when we make them on our own soil, I'm sure even my thongs are made in Taiwan, I try to buy Australian products where I can but with a large family it's bloody hard.

Attending the Invasion Day rally then working for about 10 hours.
Hopefully get some time to reflect on the saddest day of the year for this country.
Looking forward to Saturday and Sunday when some partying with the family and friends will be happening.

I think I'm spending the day down at Carrickalinga with @Jimmy_041 and Mrs Jimmy.

Although at over 100F,. I'm tempted not to get out of the car when I get there
