Re: The Ashes 25/26
I agree it looks awful but I don't see the selectors having the plums to debut an opening bat and bowler in the one Test ( Weatherald and Doggett ).
I'd like to see :
Khawaja
Weatherald
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Green
Carey
Starc
Boland
Doggett
Lyon

Peter Lalor said it best yesterday on Offsiders, If you're picking someone to be your fourth change bowler you've got problemsBooney wrote:Get the feeling they'll err on the side of the bowling strength and play Green and Webster now.

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Maybe I’m reading too much into to but Webster being released to play for Tassie over the weekend whilst all the others in the test squad were rested indicates to me that Webster has already been told he is out

Suprises me a tad.....given our batting looks the weakest element of the squad dropping arguably our most consistent test bat in the last 12 months is a ballsy call.
Admittedly Labuschagne and Green are in Shield fine despite not having the greatest spell in test cricket in recent times.
England need one of Archer or Wood to really fire otherwise there bowling attack is going to be a tad pedestrian and even that batting line up will go well.

For one, the teerm "change" must differ from my day, "first change" was the first change of either end.Booney wrote:Boland, StarcJim05 wrote:Webster I’m guessingLightning McQueen wrote:Eh? Who are you referring to? (4th change bowler)am Bays wrote:

I'm more about Webster's batting abiltity and he can play a dual role with the ball like Funky Miller used to. When I weigh it all up it's between Webster and Lyon to which I think Webster is more valuable, they possibly average similar with the ball but not with the bat, Head is more than capable to be used to tie down an end and possibly snare a wicket or two.

2025 Test Batting AveragesThe Bedge wrote:Is he though?whufc wrote:Suprises me a tad.....given our batting looks the weakest element of the squad dropping arguably our most consistent test bat in the last 12 months is a ballsy call..
Khawaja 38.41
Konstas 11.87
Labuschagne 16.16
Smith 51.50
Head 31.66
Green 23.50
Webster 34.60
-Smith's got him covered
-Khawaja hit 232 in the first innings of 2025 but since then has averaged 20.66 in the last 5 tests
-Head has scored under 30 in 8 of his last 13 innings but i guess that's the way he plays.
-Webster has scored a half century in four of his six tests.

Whuffer forgot his favourite, Alex Carey
7 test 476 runs at 47.6. One ton, two 50s
Inadvertant oversight, I'm sure...

Re: The Ashes 25/26
I was talking about the batsmen in regards to the upcoming selection. Carey has batted very well and will deservedly be in the side unquestionable. If now he could improve his primary task his keeping he would be absolutely flying.am Bays wrote:Whuffer forgot his favourite, Alex Carey

Re: The Ashes 25/26
Is that a good thing because pitches are generally harder to bat on then or is it a criticism because it's the cricket equivalent to junk time. The Bedge wrote:3 in the 2nd innings.whufc wrote:.

I don't agree with that statement but don't people occasionally throw that out there, oh but so and so only scores in the second innings.Booney wrote:whufc wrote:Is that a good thing because pitches are generally harder to bat on then or is it a criticism because it's the cricket equivalent to junk time. The Bedge wrote:3 in the 2nd innings.whufc wrote:.

I think you'll find he has scored 3 of them in the first innings. The Bedge wrote:3 in the 2nd innings.whufc wrote:.

Came in at 4/39 and scored 57 out of our 181 vs India @ SCG.
Came in at 4/67 and scored 72 out of our 212 vs SA @ Lords.
Came in at 4/93 and scored 60 out of our 286 vs WI @ St Georges.
Averages 31.5 in first digs, 36.43 in 2nd digs.
Not bad in a time where ball is starting to dominate the bat everywhere besides the sub-continent.
