They're still living on potential
Can't believe they lost that last night. Bit weak in the end.
They ran out of legs late in the 3rd, needed to have had a healthy lead after their I50 dominance. Port absorbed really well at the back and had the tank to see it out.
I've been a Melbourne apologist for over the last couple years while watching how they have been developing, but completely off them now. No excuses for any team that purports to have high finals ambitions to lose that game last night against a team that was pretty ordinary itself. How these teams can be fighting for fourth spot shows how diluted the 18 team comp has become. Teams like Essendon and GWS ought to hang their heads in shame they are not ahead of these two teams. Umpiring was absolutely woeful, 2:1 favouring Port but Melbourne got lots of ordinary ones too.

So if all those guys are in the best who is to blame for being smashed in the midfield? I thought your defence was superb and the difference between the two teams

I'd also have Jonas and Howard in my best. Melbourne the #1 clearance team in the comp, they may have got the better of the clearances but I reckon our mids did a great job pressuring them. Their i50s were often under pressure. We took 10 to 7 marks i50. Shows their entries weren't clean.

I still thought Viney shaded Wines but was a brilliant contest between them. Jonas was my best. Wonder if the Port fans slagging off Bass have changed their tune?

SPP 17 tackles. Thought he struggled last night but then saw his tackle count

Played a negating role for most of the evening, rotating between Oliver, Viney and Brayshaw. I didn't see him line up directly on Jones all that often.
Played an important role. As Boon mentioned earlier, it was a collective effort from our mids to ensure that Melbourne's I50 entries were not clean.
