No, but it was open that day. The other one is still on the market I think.

Gangs battling for territory in the food court. Reports are a mixture of weapons such as guns and knives.

Once the alarm was sounded they all fled and still on the run.

Was only extendable batons apparently. No knifes or guns.
One witness said this stuff happens in the food court between groups of teenagers every week.

Absolutely it does. I was surprised at the alarm that was raised. This is very commen. I recall at TTP on Thursday night seemed to be be little gang bangers night at the TTP.

Quite often there would be scuffles in that food court and just outside the cinema entrance doors, which has now been developed.

Why don’t we have metal detectors and security at doors like they do in countries overseas?
The little pricks would think twice about entering

In hindsight it seemed like an over reaction, but then they would have been savaged if something did happen like at Bondi Junction.

Not saying nothing ever happens at TTP, but I’ve never noticed any issues there myself.

You can name all of the major Shopping Centres in Adelaide (interstate also) and this sort of stuff happens all the time. Marion, Colonnades, TTP, Elizabeth, Rundle Mall ect. Remember seeing a bloke pull a machete at Lakeside Joondalup at a fight in the food court back 12-13 years back. The screams coming out of the food court were horrific. Issue is that these centres are all central public transport hubs within their areas. Been happening for decades.

I didn't know they had that sort of setup overseas, and potentially that sort of thing could be explored. But off the top of my head and without great thought:

1. Marion has tons of entrances, plus back/staff doors, delivery docks, etc. - all kinds of ways in, not at all like e.g. airports which are designed with security and restricted access at front of mind.
2. Even if you were able to have metal detectors at all entrances, staffing them with security to enable them to be effective at all would be very expensive.
3. Even if you had security at each door, there'd be little stopping folks just running through - obviously at an airport or similar you'd have armed security sprinting after them, and if necessary locking the place down and sweeping it till they caught them - not justifiable or practicable at a shopping centre with 300+ stores wishing to trade I wouldn't have thought.
4. You can easily procure knives and all sorts of improvised weapons in a large shopping centre - so not sure what security at doors is necessarily going to achieve in light of that.
5. I suspect the inconvenience to shoppers, especially at busy times, would be considered to outweigh any security benefits, such as there are, in light of the above.
