Howstat website has him playing 17 innings overseas at an average of 25. Only two scores over fifty.

I’m worried for him. Can’t help but feel McDonald might stupidly want to play his Victorian mate Maxwell over there.

I think his slipped behind Green as the ‘first in line’ batsmen to go if selectors decide to make a change. Just feel like his never been able to 100% nail his spot in the side.

He's had like 4x tours overseas. Pakistan in UAE (122 @ 30.50), Ashes (191 @ 27.28), Pakistan in Pakistan (68 @ 22.66) and now Sri Lanka (6 @ 6).

First one was 5yrs ago, the Ashes was in 2019 - then he was dropped during that series. Made his return in the Aussie summer and has been pretty consistent since. Pakistan in March was his first tour since 2019.

I'm not sure it's fair to judge him just yet - plenty fail in the sub-continent, but the sample size since his return to the test arena is too small to label him yet.

Also as LM pointed out, seems to be good balance in the side, and they're winning - so don't think anything changes.

Green plays a different role to Head also, so different argument - but i'd be surprised if the selectors messed with what's working and dropped Head and pushed Green up.

I agree if we keep winning they won’t change it and that’s perfectly fine

Sadly though you think if we do lose a series it might be Head whose first to go especially if it’s an away tour.

Weren't you saying that about Carey in January? :P

I actually think he's relatively safe - no batsmen currently bashing down the door at domestic level, and he's one of the youngest in the lineup at the moment - Khawaja, Warner and Smith are mid 30's - would think Head stays for stability at the least.

Who knows, time will tell. I hope he scores well in this series.

all out 321

Lankans have COVID issues as well it appears, Matthews a big out from the team

They are flying in their 2nd innings at 0/26 off 3

Not sure on that, then it would be L,L,R,R,R,L,L. Having the lefty at 5 breaks the line up a bit seeing that more often than not Head would be batting with either Smith or Marnus most of the time.

Yeah I’m hoping he can just get that one big score away…..once that happens I think he will be fine. Just hopefully we keep winning until that happens

The 152 on a tricky Gabba deck in December wasn't big enough?

How about coming in at 3/12 and scoring a match defining 101 in Tassie?

He did score 161 against Sri Lanka in Canberra too..

:D

Probably not a great idea to doctor your pitch when your batsmen are terrible at playing spin :)
