Coles, Woolworths, Harvey Norman, Hungry Jacks, McDonalds, small business owners who open on a Sunday as that's the best day for trading in smashed avo on rye with a soy latte.
The big losers :
Every **** who works on Sundays for next to **** all.
I can see why the federal Liberal government would be all for this.
I don't get this, why are they being paid **** all? They will be paid exactly what the bloke working Tuesdays will get. Is he gettin paid **** all?
Unfortunately the bloke working Tuesday is getting paid SFA. That's why he chooses to work weekends to pickup the penalty rates. Retail workers are generally the lowest paid already so reducing penalty rates cuts their income again.
Generally retail is at least $20 an hour for over 21 hardly SFA for someone who has had no formal training

Some obviously don't get this...
And some people expect to be given everything without working for it
That's why so many people are on benefits

amber_fluid wrote:$20 an hour for a 40 year old supporting a family is bugger all. I'm glad I don't work in retail but feel for people who do.
Again that is their choice.
You buy things off the internet from overseas,if you do you are partly to blame
Not to forget that family will also get probably $400 a fortnight in government handouts
This will be my last post directed at you on the subject as it's clear to me you don't have enough of an understanding on the matter to have any reasonable debate about it.

I understand what you are saying(to a degree) but people without education or qualifications don't have a choice sometimes. Their only choice is to work a low income job with penalty rates or become unemployed. I know what I'd rather them do.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.
Ok Booney, I have no idea about what you are talking about. Your opinion is the only correct one. You have obviously employed a lot of people.
I have been through many businesses in the last 28 years, I think I am very qualified to talk about this. I have plenty of experience with this and people's work ethic, personal growth and expectations.

Amber was talking about it being hard to live on $800 a week for a family which would be very difficult, just pointing out that for low income earners there is extra assistance

It sounds like you have your business hat on and not your empathy hat!
I don't agree with paying double time on Sundays but some form of penalty rates still need to be in place to protect the employee.

You're right, they should just choose to earn $150k P.A instead.

Nope, that's what they want you to think. The level of people in Australia on welfare has fallen significantly over the past decade.
It's all in the way they produce the figures
You work one hour a week and you are taken off the unemployed rate.
Those are unemployment statistics.
Australia's welfare statistics can be seen in plain daylight, and it's easy to find interactive graphs on the web that separate figures for newstart, aged pension, DSP etc. and how our welfare to GDP ratio compares to other countries

Work hard, pick the right profession, take risks and they can.
Someone we know has no qualifications at all, worked a dead end job started a house cleaning business and now turnsover $150,000 a year because they worked hard and took a risk.
Sometimes you just have to have the gumption
