I wanted Dusty to win it, he deserves to be a 3 time B&F winner IMO at tigerland. Good on Shorty though he's been ultra consistent this year and stepped up when Houli was away/injured most of the year. Loved his speech too, great way to cap a rough year for the lad.Pag wrote:My pick was Vlastuin before the count and if he didn't get knocked out in the GF he would've been a fair chance to at least equal Shorty, but happy for the lad all the same. Ultra consistent, not as heralded by people outside the club but rarely plays a bad game. Most pleasing aspect was Bolton, Baker and Balta also making the top 10 (and Graham 11th), been so good that these guys have become genuinely good AFL footballers to take the pressure off the top guys who had to play unbelievably well for us to win back in '17.

If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Coming down from his Cocaine bender wouldn't have helped with his emotions during the speech either.David Brent wrote:I wanted Dusty to win it, he deserves to be a 3 time B&F winner IMO at tigerland. Not sure it was the faster pace, I think it is how quickly Richmond chase down. They chase harder and faster than any other team.Wedgie wrote:Big fan normally but he realy did seem to struggle with the faster pace of the GF.Booney wrote:This thread is a good thread.Wedgie wrote:I'm on the Booney bandwagon, Blicavs is ******* hopeless!

One in particular comes to mind, Bliscavscsaks was on the half back flank, it got shovelled out to him and Pickett just launched at him. No time at all.mighty_tiger_79 wrote:Not sure it was the faster pace, I think it is how quickly Richmond chase down. That's what I meant. No chances to fumble, two grab a ball or slip. Get away with it against other teams. Probably wasn't an orphan either.mighty_tiger_79 wrote:Not sure it was the faster pace, I think it is how quickly Richmond chase down. Re: 2020 AFL Grand Final Richmond v Geelong
I'm not sure if I've posted this already and can't be bothered searching for it.
Overall, I thought the standard of the game itself was pretty good. Given the conditions going into the game were less than ideal the standard surprised me. There wasn't much fumbling despite the pressure and rain from earlier in the day. I did think Geelong were well on top but shouldn't have put Danger forward as that actually contradicts itself when he's stationed as a permanent forward. Dusty, complete freak. He has goal sense that cannot be taught.
I didn't like the night grand final for various reasons. Firstly, it felt like a normal Saturday night game - I think that might be for a few reasons, those being that I rushed from a Cox Plate function to the GF function so I didn't have time to get into the spirit of the game. Another was that it was the first one. Also, the expectation of GF's is that we go for a kick at 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 time. Couldn't do that either - the streetlights and local park nearby were poorly lit so I was stuck inside.
The other aspect is that the night GF is hyped up to accommodate other audiences and allow the fireworks and bands to have a black background (?) so they contrast the night sky (?). Personally I don't get into the bands (pre game or mid game) and the fireworks I got over when I was 7.
I'm not sure we should compromise the integrity of the game for a night grand final but oh well. It looks like my fond memories of having a red Sherrin being kicked around during a day grand final may be long gone unfortunately. The ratings were apparently pretty good which doesn't surprise me at all given there were about 100k less going to the game itself or functions within Melbourne CBD just as an example.
Given the AFL is trying to target peak audience, most finals will be played at night from here in where possible (Saturday afternoon doesn't rate, nor has great attendance (blockbusters aside), enabling the SANFL to play a GF on a Saturday arvo.
Just my 2c.

Excellent screen grab moments before Martin's 4th.

Re: 2020 AFL Grand Final Richmond v Geelong
That pic highlights something that has gone out of the game, the shepard. Danger could easily be protecting blicavs but instead is wanting the quick handball receive (while standing still mind you). If he puts his body between martin and blicavs then that ball gets kicked outside 50. See this sort of thing so many times in a game, players want the ball rather than protect their mate.
