Lets get back to business!! Go through every club from top to bottom and look at the players that are departing the SANFL for country footy and $$$$ for the third year in a row, and then look at the ins at clubs. Very few ins and massive outs. Some clubs have grabbed a few disenchanted players from other SANFL clubs but the comp gets weaker by the year. Do yourself a favour and scroll back over the past 3 years and see the decay we call the SANFL.

Not just country clubs although they make up a large percentage but the ammos get a few as well.

Also with Jack Trengrove going straight from an AFL list to an ammo club should probably raise a few eyebrows as well

Agree with points made by both posters here. The accumulative effects of the AFL's policies to the SANFL seem to be growing more obvious.
We've been told "careful what you wish for" while asking for the reserves to get out of the competition, I can't see how much worse it could be than what is actually happening right now.

Also the younger men of today are a different beast in terms of persistence, commitment, loyalty and pushing to the max.

Will it continue to attract good players who want to test themselves sat the highest level outside of the AFL (WAFL/VFL not that far behind), yep

And this is where the SANFL needs to be very careful with the AFL teams in its comp.

It could easily be a tribal, suburban, pure 2nd tier comp of 8 clubs with loyal fan bases battling it out for the famous trophy every year. I really wish they would develop this angle and still be a development area for players wanting to go to the AFL but also be attractive to those that don't or have finished their AFL careers. There should still be so much pride in a footballer playing 200+ games for his SANFL club. Kids at schools should have a AFL and a SANFL club.

Instead this year, by the end of the first week in September we only had one real SANFL cub remaining.

The longer the AFL reserves are in our comp the longer it will continue to deteriorate and be known as a development comp only.

It turned development comp way before the AFL reserves, U18's is an example of this.

The SANFL cap needs to be increased and the Amateur cap reduced. Simple as that, stop blaming Port and Adelaide.

IMO an increase in the salary cap will make 5-6 clubs completely uncompetitive. No way can some clubs find the extra coin.
I think the SANFL needs to come down hard on country clubs who are blatantly abusing the cap.

Impossible to police, and you are naive if you dont think it goes on in the SANFL.

Decrease the Salary cap and you might as well merge the SANFL into the Ammo's and have promotion/relegation.

AFL players will tell you that the commitment in AFL to SANFL is comparable for a fraction of the remuneration. Make the commitment proportionate to the remuneration, you'll get people far less interested in returning to community football.

Monday = Train
Tuesday = Weights
Wednesday = Train
Thursday = Off
Friday = Train
Saturday = Play
Sunday = Recovery.

Plus full-time work. and possibly wife + kids.

Or play in the country on the weekend, while training in the city once/twice a week, for the same remuneration.

Depends on what you want out of your footy. Some blokes will always take the "easy" money, others will test themselves and try to play the highest level possible. Easy to say less commitment and same or more money but money doesnt drive everyone, neither does playing SANFL.
