Also, West Perth's finals position is in question - due to the Nine sponsorship.
Seven don't want them playing finals.

Hope the figures dont turn around.
If crowds keep dropping they will be forced to remove them from the comp

I can all but guarantee you how the SANFL can improve crowd no's.

So.... Does this mean that West Perth are sponsored by Nine, so they have a 9 logo on their guernseys, hence 7 has refused to telecast their games?
Now 7 is refusing to telecast their finals matches for the same reason?
Surprised that this wasn't all sorted out at the beginning of the season, I think 9 would feel a little ripped off if their sponsorship dollar has not bought them exposure during finals, but possibly anticipated this turn of events. I don't think there are any laws preventing one TV station advertising on another however. Interesting case...

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Read Rucci's article in today's paper about the reserves debate. He lists memberships, TV coverage, and takings as advantages of their inclusion.
Then lists crowd numbers as the only disadvantage.
He goes on a little bit after that about how not having AFL players slipping in and out of the league team's line ups week in, week out is restoring integrity.
And he takes a little bit of a swipe at blokes like me for not accepting this supposed reality that the SANFL has to adjust this way if it is to survive (or something like that, read the article this morning).
I wonder if he has really given much though about what it means to have two reserve teams playing in a league competition.
Perhaps if AFL footy became a huge success in the USA, a billion dollar business, and they then decided to include two teams from Australia in their expanded GLOBAL competition, how would he feel about those two teams being called (for example) the Australian Crocodiles and the Collingwood Magpies (perhaps they are awarded the second license after initially breaking ranks with Footy Australia to join the expanded USAAFL, and forcing Australia's hand). That would be a bitter pill, I am sure. How about if they then decided that they needed a competition for the Crocs and the Magpies to field reserves teams in?
And you can guess how the rest of that would go...
There would be thousands of young'uns born in the 80's and later, who would be mortified at their beloved competition being treated in this way.
I think he actually wouldn't mind the concept of a Global league, because it would mean expenses paid trips to the States, greater potential exposure for him as a journalist and more money in his pocket. But how would he feel about his beloved Port competing in a league which plays nurse maid to two sides from a superior competition, purely because they don't want to spend the money to make a proper reserves competition to play in? Would it be purely about memberships, TV and money, even then?

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
The WAFC (West Australian Football Commission) is 'driving' the issue - they have the deal with 7.
West Perth did the sponsorship deal with 9 - this has been brewing all season, particularly having gone to a Final 5.
Channel 9 have offered to broadcast West Perth's Finals games because 7 have refused - funny.

He can't be that deluded, surely he's just lying.
No doubt it's a great solution for the AFL clubs, and we can't blame them for being in the comp .. But it's a crap solution for the 8 true clubs and we can blame 6 of those

He acknowledges that a "minority" are unhappy. That would be the majority of posters on this site I would have thought (myself included.) But it does warrant the question how many of us there actually are?
Maybe there aren't enough of us for it to matter enough to them?
The decline in attendances might be part of the answer- but not sure it tells the full story.
One issue out of the article seems sure - as long as we cater to the AFL club requirements, there won't be an AFL Reserves comp.
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

He's trying (very poorly) to justify his job.

Thank you Jake
I will now fully get into my new interests knowing that I dont have to worry about the SANFL being a real competition and then juggling my weekend time with attending matches.

The headline says it all really "SANFL working perfectly for Crows, Power". As long as Andrew and Keith are happy.
Parkinson must be angling for a job further up the footy food chain.
I would have thought when you're running a sporting competition attendances would be a fairly important KPI..

Looking at the AFL ladder, it's not working that well for Crows and especially Power.

But to counter that we only have to look at the WAFL, Fremantle and West Coast are doing alright
