Tough one?? You will win by 15 goals! The Weagles will be bottom 4
No they won’t be. Massive occasion in their new stadium. And we aren’t usually great starters to the season

Was the Eagles home game and they requested one of the big 4 Vic clubs to open the ground. They wanted the highest ratings they could get Australia wide and the derby hardly rates in other states. It’s why it is also at a crap time in WA but prime time for the Eastern states

Couple of other leaks with the Crows hosting Richmond in round 2 on Easter Thursday night and Essendon travelling to Perth for a Easter Saturday night game for Freo’s stadium opening

Would never work, the "away" team would kick up too much of a fuss.

True, but either way, there will always be a first 'home' team regardless of a derby or not.

You're referring to the 2011 PA v Melbourne being the 1st game?

Round 1 2012
If you're referring to the move to AO at the start of 2014, then the Showdown in R2 was the first game.
Port played Carlton in R1 of 2014 at Etihad, Adelaide played Geelong at Skilled.
Round 2 was the Showdown, the first game at the redeveloped AO.

Im clearly wrong then (see not hard to admit Morrell
)
I didn't think the first game at the new AO was a showdown I thought it was Port v Melbourne for some reason

Seems Sydney and GWS get the worst draws having to play 3 fellow top 6 sides twice next year, a quirk of having to have two battle of the bridges I assume. Other top sides play 2 fellow top 6 sides twice.

Not a bad draw for us. Tough opening month. Plenty of night and twilight games with 6 interstate trips. Finish with Port at AO. Finally get the Swans in Melbourne Carlton get 4 Friday night games WTF??

That was before the redevelopment. That was when Port fans were boycotting Footy Park
Was it the first AFL game at Adelaide Oval, though?

Essendon only play one top six side twice, yet Port, Melb, St.K & Hawthorn all play at top six side twice? Extremely favourable draw for the Bombers, plenty of night games & “blockbusters”. The AFL certainly want them playing finals again...

They’ve given Collingwood every chance to be up and about too
