You're right Moz, even when it's thrown from many miles away by people we thought had gone to higher places. People who deserted the ship when it almost ran aground a few years back and those crewmen who should have walked the plank for what they did are now making all the noise. They should be keelhauled.
The club is not located at Gepps Cross, but then, where is the suburb of GAZA?,
I'm not a GAZA lad, but I think you will find it stands for something like "Gaelic and Zionist Association"- That's a stab in the dark, so I will quite happily be corrected
One interesting comparison - How did the Kilburn guys view the change from the Chics to the Knights? - not exactly the same, but I have heard a couple of ex-players say they lost some mojo with the change

Taken from Gaza's web page;
"Gaza Sports and Community Club Incorporated, was originally formed in 1903 as The Klemzig Football Club on the current site of Gaza, 232 North East Road, Klemzig. During the First World War, the name of the area was changed to Gaza, to reflect anti German sentiment of the time and to recognise a famous victory by the Australian forces in Palestine. The name Gaza, stuck with the football club, which took colours of blue and gold and the Eagle as its mascot."
Jimmy you at it again! Kilburn has always been the chics due to it's original area name which was Chicago. Our first premiership in 1926 was under the Chicago Football Club. About 7 years ago we tried a new nickname the Knights with a suitably designed away guernsey to try and attract young players and also try to create a different image than people like you continue to bring up. Kilburn Football Club's nickname is the Chics has been for 80 years and now will continue for the next 80 years. By the way if that development happens at Gepps X that is about 500 metere from Kilburn oval WE WILL get involved in it, not the Northgate people.

NW, here is another anomally. The Kilburn Footy Club is located at Blair Athol Reserve, Lionel Ave, Blair Athol SA.The suburb of Kilburn is on the other side of Prospect Rd if my geography hasn't left me. My understanding of the new Super School complex is it will be behind the velodrome at Gepps Cross

Can anyone tell me if, when this Gaza name change happened to benefit the club and the district, did past players and officials all "get up in arms" and make threats to the people who made the decision? I wonder if they were all that 'small minded' back in those days? I think not, the word 'self centred'' hadn't been thought of then.

Well I think the circumstances of a world war would have made a difference. I'm sure now days if there was a world war, and something occured that touched the hearts of everyone, then changes to a club would be welcomed if it reflected the peoples feelings of the time. I don't think "self centeredness' is a new thing, and neither is "small mindedness".

Nah mate - it was a serious question - I know the history as above - I was asking if it had made any difference one way or the other

Oh sorry Nearly Was, clearly you think Kilburn has dibs on anything new/exciting/profitable happening with new sporting facilities.

N.W. yes, all you have to do is transfer your current junior programme. That should work!!
Coming from a club which went through a merge and a name-change, there is always the question of whether the legacy of the club will be left behind the old name.
My former club until a couple of years ago, did a very good job maintaining the legacy of both clubs.
My point is I guess is that something as petty or a small as a change of name doesn't mean that the GCFC is gone forever or loses it's identity. The life members will have to see the change as a step towards the future and promoting the club in the area that its now known as for continued growth. What these bandwaggoners don't realise is that there is a hell of a lot of competition in the area, especially for juniors nowadays and with a whole new suburb being developed at your doorstep, you don't want to potentially lose 50 kids to a club down the road or around the corner. Especially when a percentage of these kids, treated right, can/will become great div 1 players in the future.
Parents are more likely to sign their kid up at a booming club with good family values in a good family area, which is what Northgate is supposed to be about. You're governing body changed it's name some years ago I believe.
To sum it up it would be a good move for the GCFC, the name may change but the history remains the same.
Sell it right and I don't think you'll have a problem.

FC, you are now the new Ambassador/ress for the Northgate Rams.
Thank God somebody else can see "outside the circle" and look at the benefits and positives instead of half-cocked negatives.
The Riddler wrote:Northgate Rams is close to reality with a vote to be done next week I believe.
Certainly not, a possible point for discussion.
Ace in the post above you have FC as an ambassador/ess for the Northgate Rams. so is it a point for discussion or a done deal? PS FC, i don't see a name change as something small or petty.

You're right, in theory it's a big thing and I probably undervalued it a bit in the post above, but when I look at where Payneham would probably be (or wouldn't be) now without the change/merge one needs to sit back and admit it was a change for the better and I can't see this being anything but if it's done right.
In practice though, it wouldn't matter if they changed the name to the Acemans Assholes Football Club... as long as the club maintains its heritage and continues to be one of the strongholds for junior football, it'll still be same club. Just because they change their name it doesn't mean they're going to rip all the pictures off the walls and the trophies out of the cabinets, does it?
