So, like Tom Koutsantanis, he retains a ministry which means he retains the extra $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and company car

Yes, I agree, just like a host of Howard ministers.

John Howard single-handedly trashed the concept of ministerial responsibility.

I reckon Garrett should have a break from the Ministry, being the Minister responsible for the insulation program. Not all of the mess was his fault but the buck has to stop somewhere.

Tom should not have remained a Minister either.

R&B, I never took you for the "he did it, so it's OK" crowd. Surely not?

Howard and his crowd were held accountable, so should anyone displaying the same arrogance.

You're right, smac, my apologies.

I just get a little bored and frustrated at comments better suited to a Liberal Party branch meeting than a political debate.

As it happens, I'm happy to debate the Westminster principal of ministerial responsibilty and why it has fallen into disuse anytime.

I totally agreed that Koutsantonis should have been sacked, but I also think he wasn't because a host of Howard ministers weren't. That's consistent and a legitimate point, regardless of whether Howard was booted out or not. Koutsantonis wasn't because the principal of ministerial responsibility had already been cast aside.

Back to the serious debating points of Rudd saying sugar coating or working families all the time.

Let's instead have a great big new tax............yawn.

What!!!! he doesn't ride a bicycle????!!!! He really has sold out  Seriously I think the vast majority of people who enter public life do it for the right reasons one may not always agree with them, but I think there is a genuine desire to improve society. If we all agreed on the methodology then there would be no parties. Personally I would never swap places with PG and TK, for a car and $$$. It would mean maintaing a facade for much of the day, hardly ever gong to the footy or seeing your family irregularly, crawling and being nice to people who you don't really like too much, towing the party line sometimes on issues you find disagreeable. NO thanks

All very true Mick, which makes it bewildering why Garrett would put hmself in such a compromising position by becoming a MP in a major party effectively mocking his 30 years of Power and the Passion.

I assume from your "conversation" with Mike Rann at Prospect last year you don't believe he is one of those Mick?

I can't stand the guy or more accurately his modus opperandi, but I would like think he is motivated by things other than power. Some of his policies have affected me and the people I work with negatively,

No other place to put this, so miscellaneous crap it is;

Went to dinner at the Riverfront at the weir last night with friends in from US and Hong Kong - 9/10
Walked the Northern Lights - 10/10. Absolutely fabulous
........then the big one: went to get a taxi home at about midnight.......concierge service, like the airport, put on by the Taxi Board - 10 minutes for a taxi

=D> =D> to all those who organised any part of the above. My friends were overwhelmed with it all

Yes - we were talking about it today.

As we were leaving the Riverfront at about 10pm, one of our group said let's cross the weir and walk on the south side. I said to my wife that I didn't think it was a good idea as it was dark but there were 8 of us. I was somewhat relieved to make it to King William St without incident. There were some very seedy characters along the way.......

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/in-depth/health-by-stealth-federal-health-reform-on-the-way/story-e6frebcl-1225835816262

This is going to get interesting. The States do not want to lose control of the health funds even though they bitch about it

Interesting timing from Rudd - to save his own neck; he's shafted Rann, and it makes a mockery of this statement:

Transport Minister Patrick Conlon said the jointly funded project showed how the state and federal governments are working in partnership.

"We are now having the biggest spend on road and rail infrastructure this state as ever seen and we've been able to do so because of our good relationship with the Federal Government," he said.
