Fox have plenty of money to pay for it if they so wished, look at all the ads they have

So if they're required to pay for it they could use their ads... to pay for it. If they're required to, I mean.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

The funding might come from their ads, fox's that is.

I want FNF double headers like the NRL
It would be awesome if they had two fnf games, one blockbuster game and another "smaller" game shown on fox
Won't happen though as ch7 are the main rights holders and want to protect their investment, which is fair enough.
There was a period about fifteen years ago when they did have two Friday night games.

Re: 2016 AFL fixture - due to be released Thurs 29/10/15
Why is there always this sh!tfight about Friday night games and then some teams get disproportionally more or less?
Should be the simplest thing for the AFL to organize.
23 rounds:
9 rounds - each team gets one Friday night game, not necessarily a home game. Each team deserves at least one for being part of comp.
8 rounds - the eight finalists from the previous year play two games against other finalists.
6 rounds - "big six" in Melbourne play two games against other "big six" teams. Perhaps this could be reviewed every three years with performance and crowds being weighted.
So for next year:
5: Hawthorn, Richmond
3: West Coast, North Melbourne, Freo, Adelaide, Bulldogs, Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton, Sydney, Geelong
1: Port, GWS, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Melbourne, St Kilda
* Making the presumption that Ess, Carl & Rich and big clubs, and NM aren't, which could change end of next year given Carlton and NM's performances.
Make the finals and the "big six" Coll, Ess, etc would be guaranteed five games, smaller Vic and all non-Vic clubs three games.
Miss the finals, the "big six" would still get three, the others one.

I'd say that in 2016 it should be Eagles v.Hawthorn. I can't really understand why it should be awarded to Pies Bombers year after year.
Did a disproportionate amount of Anzacs come from those two clubs or something along those lines? If there's a good explanation for it I'll take those sentiments back, but as it is it doesn't make much sense.
I like the tradition of it being Collingwood and Essendon and hope it stays that way. Personally I think the GF replay should be in round 1
Another reason for Collingwood and Essendon playing on Anzac day is the AFL/VFL had a problem with clubs not wanting to play on Anzac Day due having to back up after only a 3 day rest etc. They were the only two clubs that put up their hand for it and made it a success. I like the idea of them playing on Anzac Day, Two traditional rivals. Have been to one of those games and know of plenty of people who don't follow either team but go to the game to experience the Day and watch the game. With Melbourne and Richmond playing the nigh before the game, both games can co-exist in Melbourne. Both Melbourne & Richmond I believe from memory were the 2 hardest hit clubs with players losing their lives in both wars.
A game played alternately each year in Perth & Adelaide as a Derby or Showdown is also an option.
The Grand Final re-Match used to be the season opener in the VFL for many years as the winning club used to unveil their flag in Round 1

Let that be a lesson to you, Port Adelaide Sturt. & Norwood You don't beat Glenelg in Grand Finals and get away with it.

The reason this won't happen is ch7 want a return on their 1.7 billion or whatever it is.
Got no issue with them scheduling the bigger clubs that night, but what we want more than anything is a good game of footy.
Imo if it is most likely going to be the match of the round then it should be Friday (with a little tweaking)
Friday is the night that almost everyone watches regardless of their own team participating

Pretty happy with our draw, lots of Sunday games and only 2 Friday night games. Travel interstate 6 times including Adelaide and Perth twice. No double up games against any of the top 6

Exactly clubs abused the system so it was changed to minimise the impact.

I think it's a great idea but it will still be manipulated where possible.

It also nullifies any disadvantage a finals team has if they are coming back from an interstate game in the final round.

I don't like it at all. Knee jerk reaction to one seasons final round goings on.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
