Give it 3 years, they’ll bring in a top 16 and play 8 weeks of finalsDOC wrote:Very unfair on the teams that finish 11th and 12th.

We really are turning into the American Football League, changes to draft night one year, wildcard next year, whats next for 2027.....cheerleaders on the side
Wait for the goal posts to become wider and extra points for kicking from outside 50

Wildcards make sense in some American sports when you have less than half the teams make the finals.Jim05 wrote:Can’t even think of their own ideas so introduced a Yank “Wildcard”mighty_tiger_79 wrote:Dills presser

The NBA is really ridiculous with their play-offs now, so Dillbags seems to think this is the path we should go down...
And no coincidence that interest in the NBA is on the decline in the US, too

Re: AFL 2026
Struggling to understand all the hysteria over this.
For me, upsides are:
- Removes the bye before finals which kills the momentum of the season. (I’m sure we can go back through the posts complaining about the void this weekend produces)
- Can make an argument for teams that weren’t blessed with playing the Eagles, Roos, Bombers twice aren’t as disadvantaged..
- TV revenue which some should ultimately find its way to clubs
Ultimately, history shows 7th & 8th are largely participation roles in the finals as well, the impact on the fairness of the comp is minimal and if anything potentially improved with teams less likely to throw the white flag as the season progresses.
