Sass! wrote:Certainly not great for SHOC as they have always had very strong sides in the lower grades but when you are trying to make up numbers, calling up ring ins, telling em they will be used sparingly but only 18 or 19 rock up and you then get hit by injuries, they very quickly realise sparingly means having to play 4 quarters in a pretty solid competition.

I know its been discussed earlier but there was talks of having an North & South comp for C & D grade sides. probably isnt the worst idea, as when you are scratching for numbers and looking for last minute players, its much easier to attract them when its a 20 minute drive to the game instead of an hour and 20 minutes. Also, playing against local rivals each week is always good for crowds and the likes.. Modbury have a great rivalry with Gullies, Hope Valley and Golden Grove.. when ever we have played those sides in the lower grades we always get a good turn out at training as well as decent crowds for the games.. Alot for the SAAFL to assess next year i suppose and hopefully allow them to avoid a situation much like Houghton's reserve side will be facing, 3 weeks without a game is almost unheard of mid year.

the prospect of c-graders playing only c-graders would be very appealing to cgraders, as in my belief - the participation rate will rise

TTG im 'assuming' are experiencing this effect in div 8, and im 'assuming' there is a great vibrancy around the cgrade traps at TTG this season?

Ingle Farm may be pushing for a D grade next season, but don't think the C/D grade would be strong enough to compete with other club C/D grades :(

You'd be suprised I think mate, ours are in Div 8/8R and are struggling, but most blokes are still enjoying themselves.

North Haven and Hope Valley have made the transition from three sides to four pretty well.

I see Pete Early from AV has joined his old team mates at Smithfield. Was full back in the 2012 team of the year Div7 and been kicking a few goals this year. Top lad, and as if Smithies need another gun. :D :D

FWIW PNU's experience is that 8R is a rough equivalent of C4.

Thanks for that feedback! Something to keep in mind that's for sure! Plenty of work to go in before IFFC look at the option though, but I do believe it is something that is beginning to come into some peoples consideration

C4 this year is not as good a standard as C4 last year - so guess it depeneds who you asked and what year they were talking about

Depends on what club you play and what day, also depends on how many guys just want to play with mates that week.

  Fair call!

Last year though PNU were miles ahead of the rest, Pulteney were a fit quick young team, TOS had Krieg kick nearly 100 goals.
This year a lot of the sides who have come in are on the back of not very strong seasons recently, it's Modburys 5th side and Rosewater 1st time in 10yrs they had a C grade.

We also had the unfortunate circumstance were because the bye in 6R we had half a dozen games where players were stacked into C grade teams and of course Para Hills playing their night games which help them.

Yep, playing against other C & D grade sides would certainly impact on participation rates, as someone mentioned.. SHOCS made 5 GF's a while ago and were flying, but as you climb and start playing A grade sides, all of a sudden your best squad possible is only just matching with A grade sides, then injuries hit and it gets harder from their.. Ideally a two div C & D grade promotion & relegation system would be great. but again yuo need the teams for that and you also dont want sides currently playing Div 7 against C Grade to miss out (such as Smithy's, North Pines, Houghton etc).

Also, when people start playing the violin for SHOC, Flinders Park etc. it strongly gives the impression they attract large contingents of players who are only interested in playing when they're a chance of winning a flag.

While I accept every club will have a spike in numbers when their C/D grades are up and about proposing to make special allowances for clubs who can fill full quotas of sides when they're dominant but start chucking it in when the going gets tough is pretty piss weak in my opinion.

Yep, SHOC, Henley, AU all played in D7 premierships against A grade teams in recent years. Didn't hear any complaints then.

Your classic example would be TTG in 2012.
