Wade's done enough and is in decent enough form that I can't see him being dropped from a winning team.

So if Wade moves down, that's Trav or Green to make way.

Green's bowling ability might get him over the line with the short turn-around for Sydney.

Head certainly didn't do himself any favours with his shot yesterday. He'd wanna hope Warner isn't fit for Melbourne.

Well, not the evening I expected

Always feel pretty good about the opposition sending in a night watchman. First it increases your chances of another wicket late in the day. And if you don't get one then it makes for an easier first wicket the next day. If either one happen then your bowling attack starts the day feeling pretty darn good about themselves. Then also the scoreboard looks a little worse. You see 2/ then 3/ etc a little sooner. India were 5/ before Kohli got out and I bet the Aussies were already feeling like the tail was near despite India having Saha to come.

And if that night watchman does manage to survive for a while they're almost certainly going to hinder the batsman when they really just want to get on with batting. This probably counts double for day/night tests when (usually) you want to be scoring earlier in the day.

Not a surprise to me India lost a few early wickets and found themselves under more pressure than they might have. All out 36 was a surprise though.

Burns and Wade should buy Cummins and Hazlewood beers all night long. No pressure at all let them both score runs and secure their spots. Hopefully it's the start of something for them and not a false dawn. Burns will hold his spot a little longer and Wade back to 6 if Warner is fit, Pucovski and Green miss out. They'll be in before too long. I don't feel like Head is up to it right now and not sure Wade has the class to keep scoring enough runs. Maybe both gone before the summer ends.

With his five wicket haul today Hazlewood reaches 200 test wickets and Cummins with four takes his 150th.

So happy with the way the Aussie's bounced back after the first innings deficit, what a way to start the series!

I'm interested in what we thought of the pitch.
Seemed to me it looked to be a great cricket wicket.

I don't think the pitch or pink ball had anything to do with their 2nd innings.
They got done by some of the best test bowling I've seen for a long time.
Both sides bowled well and I think some of the batters have been spoiled rotten with bat friendly wickets for too long.

Good to see Burns make some runs.
Maybe someone should hit him before he goes out to bat in future?

Have to agree, that bowling would have knocked any side over cheaply IMO

One thing with Hazelwood he never disappoints, rate him very very highly and regularly knocks over the top shelf batsman

Best Cummins has bowled in a while as well, had been down and out a bit prior

Great cricket wicket, again shows however how most struggle against a ball that moves around a bit

The pitch had something in it for the bowlers, which is fine. It will be interesting to see how India react though. Will they blame the pink ball and refuse to have it used when they next tour? Time will tell. Will Channel 7 crack the shits because the test only went two and a half days?

I wonder what they will serve up at the MCG .... hopefully it has some life.

Anyone come across an article or research that compares Test batting averages of before the introduction of 20/20 cricket to after it was introduced? It seems like Test cricket in recent years is just a battle of who bats less crap. I wonder if 20/20 is the cause of this.

The series is now poised perfectly.

Obviously the Indians lose Kohli and Shami and under normal circumstances would implode, make 7-8 changes to the side, threaten to go home and spit the dummy completely. I cant help but feel though this Indian era of players have a lot more heart about them and I somewhat expect them to bounce back.

Great second inning performance by Burns but definitely not sold on the Aussie batting line up. Questions marks still exist over Burns, Wade, Head and Green. We are just as capable of being bowled out for under 150 as India.

The first innings of the next test is going to decide the series imo. If we bat first and can put 350 plus on the board it might be enough to break the Indias spirit. Alternatively if they can go out and put a decent score on the board first up they will back themselves in to bowl us out twice.

You're more optimistic than I, I can see an innings defeat coming up, they've lost their leader and the #1 batsman in the world, and that's after being bundled out for 36 and then chuck in Shami's omission which alleviates the bowling combinations that he, Bumrah and Ashwin have.

I've always admired the Indian spirit and tenacity, even back to the Gavaskar, Armanath and Kapil Dev days, they've always been hard nosed blue collar types.

I always thought the MOTM was for a match winning performance, but yeah, I didn't realize how many catches he took, I'd still be picking one of the bowlers ahead of him.
