Getting rid of John Howard. Getting rid of Workchoices. The apology to the stolen generations. Guiding our economy successfully through the GFC.
Thankyou Mr. Rudd.
One of Australia's greatest PMs for a 07 day wonder Watered down workchoices - most of it is still there Stolen generations - a sop to the latte sippers, but in effect no concrete changes for aboriginal people Yeah thanks to the exceptional economic management of the previous 11 years and the resources boom Billions wasted on school halls and dodgy insulation
Goodbye Kevin, your last speech was probably your most sincere
Rudd's apology meant a lot to the aboriginal people, and was certainly a stepping stone in the right direction. Far more so than the midget's "I didn't do it it's not my fault" attitude. The pathetic little man didn't even have the decency to attend parliament on the day.
As for exceptional ecomonic management one could argue the platforms were put in place under Keating's time in treasury, and besides I don't call cutting government and public services and hanging onto tax dollars so a surplus can be achieved "ecomonic management" I call it what it is THEFT!!!! I don't pay taxes so some suit in Canberra can say "Look I've got a surplus" I pay taxes so that money is put back into the community...where it should go!!!!
Resources boom??? Well when one in seven dollars from that "boom" is going back into the Australian ecomony I wonder if it's a boom for Australia or a boom for overseas share holders.
But as we know politics is like football. You can talk til you are blue in the face but you'll never get someone to change sides.
"They got Burton suits, ha, you think it's funny, turning rebellion into money"

I agree about the apology - it was skilfully handled with the right balance of emotional appeal while preventing the subsequent grab for massive compensation everyone else had feared.
I disagree about Keating - the man who managed the plan of exporting Australian manufacturing and jobs, to artificially lower CPI and sustain the Hawke consensus re union wage claims. Nor do I agree that money should always be spent as it comes in rather than saved to reduce national debt, and cover future superannuation and pension liabilities. The resources boom also helps local shareholders like me who provide their own pensions, and health cover, and save the government money that way.
Let's all help stamp out prejudice against illiterate, sexist, racists, and the devaluation of their human rights! We must respect their way of life, too.

I think it will end up that Rudd cost himself more personally than he cost the party. That's not to say that labor will be unscathed of course.
Where does Rudd go from here politically after such a bold move if, as is being reported this morning, he has hardly changed a single vote within caucus despite all the noise and Gillard's poor polling.
Julia may be unpopular but politically she seems to be the deal maker who gets it done when she has to. Rudd the idealist seems to have been completely outplayed twice now.

That may be so but it wont get her votes at an election.

I wouldn't be so certain. That's not to say I would be putting money on him to become PM again.
I just can't see him resigning his post as Foreign Minister to stand for a ballot he knew he couldn't win and then quietly spend the rest of his days on the back bench.
He's no Howard, and while there is a high probability he will continue to try to destabilise from the backbench, he will never win a leadership ballot ... ever.
