an u/18 lad from our club got a game for calling an umpire a F*n cheat on the weekend. if i got reported everytime i have said that i would be banned from the amatuer league, i dont condone this behaviour, but is the umpire being a touch precious fair enough the 25m penelty or even a yellow card but to get next week off seems a touch over the top
I think you will find that is now "par for the course" toward umpires and to be honest, I don't reckon it's too bad. You can't walk up to someone in the street and call him a "thief" without proof or your in court, why should this be any different? Respect has gone missing, bring some back! BTW, if you don't condone it, why are you guilty of doing it?
haha good question ace I try not to talk to the umpires at all, unless I know him and even then I try to limit it Saying something that would normally not get a response can tip an umpire over the edge sometimes! when they put there fluros on, they transform into different people!

because i like to tell it as it is aceman and as im only human emotion at times gets the better of some people, some of the umpires we put up with im sure were good mates with hansi cronje.
the umpire on the weekend came in to the changerooms at half time interupted us as we were adressing our side told us that both umpires have decided thet our player is unable to start the 3rd quarter as looking back on it its deserved of a yellow card,so we then changed the side around as we were told we were unable to start with that player (who is in our best 3 players and key possy player). 1 min before the umpires walked back on to the ground they came in (again interupting) and told us after reviewing the rule book our player was aloud to start the 3rd quarter and pretend like it never happened. then reading the report sheet after the game it says the boundary umpire reported him for saying these words to the goal umpire, now call me naive but as the goal umpire was a amatuer league umpire shouldnt he be the reporting umpire?

Playing the Devils Advocate here, if the goal umpire didn't hear what was said, he cant make the report. If the boundary umpire did hear what was said, he should make the report. Simple really.

You said the boundary ump heard it and reported the player for "threatening/abuse toward an umpire". If I heard it and somone asked the question, " did anyone hear Johnny threaten Bill"? my reponse should be , "I did"! BTW, ALL umpires are expected to lodge reportable offences irrespective of whether they are SAAFL appointed or otherwise.

I admitted to the panel that i said the ump was a F$%^en Idiot. The panel then explained to the umpire taht his reaction to my first statement of your goal ump when i free was given in my oppinion wrongly. That he needed to harden up basically and that if a player says something as little as your goal ump and he reacts the way he did well maybe he shouldnt be taking charge of a game. They also said that the decline in umpiring and its depth is due to 2 key factors. Yes one is the overwhelming response form crowds, players and in some instances club officials. But the other is the umpires and they way the conduct themselves and not following the leagues interpretation of all rules. I understand that their are some new guys and girls there that need help and a bit of empathy but in some respects it does fall on them in the end to earn and gain the respect of the playing groups and call it as they see it instead of how they want to see it. I will probably get shot down in flames for this comment but i believe club paid umpires officiating their own clubs matches should no longer exist. Example. Div3R club umpire for Portland should officiate say Seatons game and vice versa. Alternating the games each week and still being paid by the home club. I dont know just a sugegstionm. thats the most frustrating thing when ya try ask a umpire a question politely, and he yells back at ya something like keep going and ill send ya off or something like that when simply all ya want is a answer to why a call was made! frustrating

It's called "not having a feel for the game". A lot of them enjoy the power they supposedly have been given and have little or zero people management skills, so find it necessary to wield the big stick!

The worst thing is there is actually some really good umpires out there, who can take a little bit of sh!t from players and get over it, but unfortunatly a good umpire is usually paired up with a rather bad one. I had one umpire this year that i was having a chat with who stated he didnt like the umpire he was paired up with because he made other umpires look bad and he also stated that the other umpire had verbally abused the umpire he was paired up with the previous week for paying a free kick that he didnt agree with (apparently the free was for a player who the other ump thought took a dive)

That doesn't get you anywhere either. Our captain went to the umpire the other week & asked "why isn't it holding the ball when a player drags the ball in on the ground & shows no attempt in getting the thing out, the umpires response was "this aint the AFL this is Amateur League & we don't apply with the same rules" Thats fair dinkum
