You are a knob, it will be a rocs & uni GF because why? EP have an average oval and changerooms, you must be another one of these precious ones that dont like going there and hate it because a team from the northern suburbs are doing so well.

Blacks, if you think that some of your players are playing for the love of their mates, I think you must be delusional. Are they getting cash money, probably not, extend your thinking and imagine what your club could provide to these top end players to entice them to your club. Uni is a proud amateur league club and would not be happy with last couple of years in Div 2 instead of challenging for a Div 1 premiership. It required some action and obviously your administration had the tools required to entice some damn good players to your club, so as FS tried to say, well done and good luck, your club deserves the climb after the year they have had.
I know what the enticement is, I just want to know what peple like you and FS think it is. Your suggestions of what they are a little ambiguous but probably best reflect your understanding of what goes on outside of your own club.

Blacks stop being so precious, whatever the enticement/incentive is it really doesnt matter. The results will come for UNi and thats what matters isnt it?

And if we are all so ignorant and you say you know all, please inform us plebs of what the enticement is at Uni?

The enticements are several things -
- good standard football played with mates eg the McEntee boys are very close with the Kurzel brothers plus the challenge of lifting the club back into Div 1.
- the close proximity of the ground to workplaces in the city and to residential colleges in North Adelaide. This year saw several folk finish up in the country as travelling times were too long.
- the ability to access a large social network which can (but often doesn't) lead to networks within vocations just as networks within other clubs can lead to benefits (eg cheaper tradework, vocation networks, old school network with other college sides)
- people sometimes don't want the pressure of being one of the few paid players at a club. I've talked to many a player who enjoyed the money but didn't enjoy the often unreasonable expectations placed upon them. Several came back to playing for no money for this reason. This also is reflected in the ability to travel during the season without backlash.
- the knowledge that trimmers was coaching helped.
- the two jugs of beer that the best on ground wins for all grades.
- the ability to pretty much choose which grade they want to play. For example, if an a grade level player can only train once a week they can pretty much decide to play lower - this also allows the a and b grade coaches to pick those who train twice a week if this is going to be a criterion.
- often players' fathers, brothers etc have played at uni and talked it up. We've quite a few players who are second or third generation.

The ructions about hecs are nonsensical and available to all clubs - if a supporter or employer wishes to pay somebody's hecs they can with no problems. This has never happened in the 23 years I've been with the Blacks. The University scholarships cover living expenses and are aimed at the less represented end of people at University or at the elite athlete end such as Olympic rowers rather than what is a third tier State based footballing competition.

Cheers.

Very good explanation finn.

I think that should satisfy everybodys inquisitive minds on how Adelaide Uni operate. I am not affiliated with adelaide Uni but do know some ex players and finn has pretty well summed up what I have always been told.

TC not sure you deserve the title of knob, but EP oval was in good contition a month ago on a recent visit. The one benefitg it ndoes have is the lack of 25 x 20 metres clay pit inn the centre of the ground, rather a 2 x 25 metre sand pit, which makes for a much better spectacle, the ball does not get waterlogged and take an eternity to float out ofn the centre. Beware they are a real chance if their defence can hold until finals pressure. Midfield and forwards can hold their heads with the best of them. Be afriadTC, be really afraid.

So FS and myself go from congratulating your club and what you have done this year to receiving a sermon from FINN on what you possibily might be offering some of your players. Let me say that if the players playing wanted big remuneration they would be in the country leagues, not SAAFL. So what do we have left as FINN so elaborately explained, employment, networking, accomodation - pretty much sums up what I was thinking. Probably the two jugs that swayed them though. I can see FS, getting the cartons out for next years recruiting campaign. I now officially withdraw the praise for your club that I posted and now hope that you go out in straight sets.
Oh, and let me guess you are studying politics, if we say it is black, you sure as h... will say it is white.

Ignorant much??? Who cares what their changerooms and facilties are like?? That doesn't determine whether they will play in the GF or not. There has been a lot of changes to EP, the council has been helping out with the improvements so you may get a shock the next time you go there. They are definitely good enough, proving last year was no fluke. Good luck to them, they will more than hold their own if they make it to Div 1.

Oh, and let me guess you are studying politics, if we say it is black, you sure as h... will say it is white.

You also previously stated that Adel Uni are a proud AMATEUR club, and a lot of their players and officials work hard to retain the ability to say that, so what did you expect when you start accusing them of paying players.

Finn provided a thorough explanation of the what the club offers (which doesn't included providing accommodation, if you read correctly), but in the end, unless you've experienced the unique culture of the club you'll never truly understand the enticement.

Bulls forever, don't take their defensive posts as personal attacks. Adel Uni have been fighting the "secret payment" stigma for a long time..... This was merely the last straw, in a sense.

If Eastern Park get over PHOS on the weekend I dont think anyone will stop them. Very tough assignment playing a final there, PHOS are tough there at the best of times.

EP seem to be the form side at the moment and I know they are pretty confident that at there best they can give any side a redhot go. Uni wouldn't want to play them I wouldn't think if they could choose...

Go the Demons
