CENTRAL District has used its connections well to sign a young key forward from VFL club Box Hill.
Tom Graham is son of former Hawthorn and Richmond player Mark Graham.
Central and Hawthorn champion John Platten set the wheels in motion, through his extensive friendship and knowledge of the Hawks’ players, when the VFL competition was canned this season because of coronavirus restrictions, leaving many players without a football home for the season.
Tom, 20, about 197cm, who is isolating in SA for another week after arriving from Victoria, had played high-level junior basketball until three years ago. But switching to football, he played with Oakleigh Chargers in 2018 and 2019, before signing with Box Hill this season.
Bulldogs’ coach Jeff Andrews said he was thrilled to have Graham on board.
“It came about with Platts’s connection with Hawthorn and knowing Mark (Graham) well,’’ Andrews said.
“He (Tom) will come on to the track next week but we won’t rush him. We are keen to get some ‘ks’ into his legs.
“He hopes to get back into the system and maybe look at being drafted one day.’’
Graham Sr played 223 games for the Hawks between 1993 and 2004 and 20 for Richmond in 2005 and was often seen running out on to the field with young Tom alongside.
Central also was pleased with the league debut last Saturday of another young recruit, Jack Toner, who picked up 18 possessions against North Adelaide.
Toner, 20, had played with Dandenong Stingrays in the VFL for the past two years.

Exact type player we need which is good the club has identified that.

As I said on a previous post im not overly comfortable with clubs bringing players over and tbh not sure how they are deemed essential given that their not even being paid so its not like its employment.

Dear Members and Supporters,


I’m sure you will all agree that it has been fantastic to have the SANFL 2020 season up and running and our Roosters performing well. To have our Women’s team under coach Krissie Steen achieve an undefeated minor round season with 10 straight wins is a remarkable effort we are all very proud of, and our men’s side sitting in the top 2 after 6 rounds, we have much to be grateful for at this time.


But with the ongoing fight against the invisible enemy, we must continue to be flexible and understanding of the challenges that are presented to us to keep the community safe and healthy. This week, SA Health and SAPOL have announced new restrictions which will impact on how we behave on game day, beginning this Saturday 8 August when we take on the Sturt FC at Prospect. Simply, if we do not comply with these new restrictions, then we face large financial penalties and put the remainder of the SANFL season at a huge risk, so we beg our loyal and passionate members and supporters to adhere and support them strongly.


Restriction 1: Effective from today and applying to the home match on Saturday, there will be no drinking alcohol in the clubrooms whilst standing. This means, if you are drinking alcohol inside the Club, you must be seated at a table. There is no standing at the bar or around the room if you are drinking alcohol. This will impact on the number of patrons allowed in the Function and Legends Rooms, especially post-match, so we need you’re cooperation and understanding. If there is no room to sit at a table with your drink, then please do not order a drink at the bar until there is room.


Restriction 2: At Prospect Oval home matches, including this Saturday, there is to be no consumption of alcohol whilst standing around the terracing. This means, if you are watching the match and want to drink alcohol, then you must be seated. If you want to have a drink at the football, then we encourage you to bring your own deck chair or similar seat, or just sit down on the terracing and enjoy a great game of footy.


These new restrictions will be closely monitored by security and SAPOL , but also by our supporters who want football to continue in 2020. The alternative plan would be to close all alcohol outlets around the ground, however, we want to give our great supporters the opportunity to work with us this Saturday so we can maintain alcohol sales at future games. If we fail and do not comply, then removing alcohol sales may be actioned.


As mentioned above, whilst these new restrictions may be frustrating for some, they are necessary to keep our community safe and healthy.


At this stage, entry protocols will remain the same as last Saturday with normal ticket sales at the main gates or purchase on-line.
