Holden78 does speak some truth. Earl has been a player who has dominated when playing reserves but has never shown that form when playing League. Unless he has improved immensely he will only be a good solid player who will give us extra depth but shouldn't be given a regular place in the Seniors. The recruitment of Jackson Bolton from Geelong will be the interesting move. A lot was expected of him as an 18 year old in 2003 but he supposedly suffered from shoulder injuries which affected his form. By all reports though, he is fast and certainly can play. He was obviously targeted after Stokes got drafted. Will play wing or in the centre

Clay Sampson
I have heard a rumour that Clay Sampson has left South and is playing in the Southern Football League this year for Morphett Vale.
Can someone confirm this.

I haven't heard a whisper.
If he is he will be a great loss as he is an inspirational leader. His shoulder problems are common knowledge and may be the reason. I think his run of injuries last year really hurt us.
The Older I get the BETTER I WAS!!!!

Pity about Josh King. If he was ever going to make his mark it would have been this year with the loss of Ellis and Watts. Probably not up to it at league level though.
According to the Geelong Advertiser the Eagles have also picked up Jackson Bolton's twin brother Matthew and cousin Bell from St Josephs in Geelong.

This year for the eagles seems to have been much different in terms of recruiting pre-season to the path we have taken in the previous several. We seem to have picked 6 or 7 recruits whereas previous years we would have only gained 2 or 3. This may signify a change of strategy. Recently we have relied on a core group including colville, hall, frewan, cicollela etc. and really only minimally topped up our list. Hopefully at least a couple of these recruits will prove handy.
Was the Bolton twins father David Bolton who played with Woodville? It would be interesting to know if this would have been a factor in their decision to play for the eagles seeing as Fuller and Bolton Snr would probably know one another.
What is this North player Travis Oakley like? I recognise the name but never took much notice. From memory he seemed to be a player who was always in and out of north's league side for a few years. He could well be one of these players who play really well at reserves level but can never quite crack it at league level, much like a Jason Earl.
Jason King's loss will not impact much on us but he will be a loss in regards to his teamwork, dedication and attitude which were always first rate regardless of where he played. Standing at about 183cm and 90kg he was too short as a key forward where we mostly played him and too slow to be played on a flank. If he were 5cm taller he'd be an exceptional player since he has a great grab. He will definately be an asset at amateur league level where you don't have to be as tall to make an impact. All the best
