Dentistry cost?

Post by Wedgie »

Just curious as I'm getting some work done in Thailand.
How much would an xray, a crown, 2 fillings and a cleanse over 3 appointments be worth in Australia?
I was pretty amazed as that's all I needed doing after not going to a dentist for over 25 years (they petrify me).

Are you considering whether to get the dentistry done in Thailand, or you've actually already decided to get it done there?

Half done. Done 2 sessions out of 4.
Did my study before I got here and am seeing a dentist better than most in Australia.
Thai girls at the bar are laughing at me as Im dribbling more than normal.
Even if the dentist stuffs my teeth up she gives a great lapdance!

Probably $1500+ Wedgie

Nothing wrong with Thai dentists - I know a lot of ex-pats in Asia who have had major work done there at a fraction of the cost of coming back here

Do what I did mate, come to Thailand for a holiday, get the work done and still pay less all up than you would in Oz. Mind you with the amount of money I spent at the bar on Sunday night my philosophy has gone flying out the window.

Actually wait till after I give a full review on Friday after my new crown , fillings and cleanse are done. Was happy enough today though, got injections and my tooth prepared for a crown and temporary one put on (its one of my front upper ones) and not half as traumatic as what I went through in Australia when I had it done originally 27 years ago.
I originally knocked it out at school when I slipped off a fence and fell head first onto concrete.

Cheers mate. All up its costing me $600 here.
They offered me a valium when they saw how petrified I was but I thought that might not go down that route with the amount of alcohol I drink here at nights! ha ha

I was surprised at the number of Australian people we met around the pool in Kata that were there for the Dentistry they had the holiday as a secondary add on.

My estimate - based on the Dentist in Kensington Park I use would be about $2000.
I'm prepared to pay his rates because his work is good.
I went to a few Dentists whose work wasn't all the good while in Melbourne, until I found the Greek guy I used in the last few years there.

I have dental cover with my NIB policy so regular dental work and periodontist visits get covered and I'm in front over the past six or seven years.

Yesterday on Pulteney St I got two X-rays, two fillings and a clean which would have cost $650 without cover.

By contrast it recently cost me $1300 for a crown, of which I got $650 back from my fund.
My Dentist in Melbourne in 2008 charged $990 for a similar job and the refund was $600.

Thanks for the info guys, appreciate it. I think the worst of it was last night when they took off the existing crown and replaced it with a temporary one. Only knocked it with a beer bottle once last night and it didn't fall out so thats a good sign. Must get out of bed soon....

3 out of 4 sessions gone. Finish off tomorrow morning with the new crown.
Teeth look 20 years younger after the cleanse. Found the cleanse the most traumatic thing so far which is an indication of how good theyve been. All work is guaranteed and each session has been very quick. From 15 mins for first appt to 40 mins today for cleanse and filling.
Extremely happy with them so far, final verdict tomorrow.
Only problem is my mouth is still very numb and its hard sinking medicinal beers. ha ha
