Great Cycle Challenge

Some of you already know, but for those that don't about 10 months ago I dusted off my old mountain bike and started riding to get fitter and lose some weight, since Dec I've done just under 7000km on it

This October, I am riding in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
I will be pedalling for 31 days and my goal is to ride 600km throughout the month.

Why am I doing this? Because cancer is the largest killer of children from disease in Australia - 3 children die of cancer every week.
It will tough, but nothing compared to what these kids face every day as they battle this terrible disease.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

And so I am taking on this personal challenge to raise funds to fight kids' cancer and give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Thanks to everyone who has donated money for the Children's Medical Research Institute for Cancer Research.
So far, 8 days until the start of the Great Cycle Challenge and I'm only $20 away from my target of $500.
If I can raise double my target by the October 15th I'll do my best to match it a km per dollar raised instead of my target 600km, $1000 = 1000km

I started the month with $600 in donations

After 1 week (yesterday) I had ridden 201 km and still on $600,


Today I rode the entire Torrens Linear Park in both directions with a mate, 73 km to home and back via Athelstone and Henley Beach

After 2 weeks I've now raised $620 and pedalled 501.9km, today is the last day of my Annual Leave and I'm going country for a few days so I wont be keeping any where near the rate I have for the 1st 2 weeks of the month, less than 120 km to match my $ raised so unless there is a big influx of donations I should nail that easily, 300km in a week on a 18yo 15 speed mountain bike is taxing, I think the legs will appreciate a couple of complete rest days later this week.

After 3 weeks I've now raised $700 and ridden 659km, 157 km for the week was a lot less than I had been doing but I was back at work and away in the country for 3 days with no bike

4 weeks gone I've now raised $710 and ridden 809 km, another 150km for the week. There's only 3 days left and I was hoping to match my km travelled in sponsorships, it's for a great cause, every $ raised goes to Children's Cancer Research, donations are tax deductible

I'm already a week into the 2014 challenge, thanks to everyone who has sponsored me so far, together we have already raised $635 to help fight Children's Cancer.

In the 1st 7 days of October, despite being unwell and not riding for a couple of days I have managed to ride 206 km on my old mountain bike
