the sanfl were your parents that guided you &supported you. You have left home now so good luck.

You do realise over the many many years that Port have been around, we have received more handouts from the SANFL then the crows ever will.

Edited for accuracy.

Come on TSG you could of added that the swans receive hand outs from the AFL each year to try and attract high profile players. By the way how is that going for you this year.

Not sure what the Swans has got to do with the handouts your mob has received from the SANFL over the years.

Fact - Port Adelaide ( SANFL and AFL ) and the Adelaide Crows have generated millions over the years for the SANFL.

Fact - When financially crippled ( for a multitude of reasons ) the SANFL saw fit to assist Port Adelaide to stay afloat.

Why? The SANFL needs a strong Port Adelaide and Adelaide Crows. This is 2014 and this is football is South Australia.

True, but it's been a double edged sword. Having an AFL licence in (at least nominally) football mad South Australia should be a licence to print money. The bottom line has been a problem.
Also, the advent of AFL sides in South Australia has devastated SANFL clubs' profile and everthing that hangs off that.

I've got no doubt AFL has introduced new fans to the games, and that's a good thing to a point. I'm just not convinced a lot of them aren't anything but fair weather theatre goers. Still, that's just my perception, i admit i find it hard to accept the way the game has gone, when elderly ladies with their crow scarves and apricot slice repices get more coverage than a West Adelaide or Glenelg.

And what is Port's back up plan once the licence is under their control? Remembering they are bleeding $ and would now have more debt for pay for this...

It's the AFLs problem now like most the other clubs.

I'd expect the anticipated increase in revenue from Adelaide Oval ( Koch estimated $3M Chapman estimated $3.6M the SANFL estimated $15M combined  ) the fact we are at nearly 50,000 members, season ticket sales gone from 15,500 to 27,000, merchandise that is walking out the door at the Gear Shop and on game day, Renault and Energy Australia's corporate partnerships....and like all clubs, on field success to bring people back to the footy and increase corporate partners.

Good short term. But what happens, Booney, when the inevitable slide down the ladder occurs in say six or seven years time?
What we saw in the five years or so prior to last season was scary in terms of disinterest from Port supporters. Is Adelaide Oval the antidote to all of that because no one wanted to go to West Lakes when Port was losing?

Not a stir, genuine questions, as it's very easy to look with teal-tinged glasses at the moment and think everything's going to be okay.

Absolutely and the valid question you pose I can't answer.

All clubs who bottom out as we did, Bulldogs, Melbourne, St.Kilda etc have all endured times of hardship, it just comes with the territory.

To say it's as simple as the AFL will always have two teams in South Australia might be a cop out from me, a humble member and supporter, but it's probably as real and true as it gets. Just like the AFL juggernaut will not let GWS or the Gold Coast struggle and die off.

I expect with all the excellent work KT has done off field there are measures in place to ensure we don't drop to the level we did off field in 2011 and 2012. As I said, I'm not in a position to answer that very pertinent question, one I'd like to know the answer to also.

There is also no doubt corporate backing with a good on field "product" needs to be secured. Renault seem to be a good fit with Port and I hope they are getting reward for their support. Look at the likes of Adelaide ( Toyota ) Geelong ( Ford ) Collingwood ( Emirates ) if you can secure a major international brand.....that must be solid foundation to build upon.

Funny my recollection of Alberton back in the day, was often being abused by the blue rinse Port grannies crocheting while they were baying for pommy blood.
