I've had issues with drinking and depression and all sorts of s*** but I don't know how to deal with someone who's an alcoholic.
Been trying to get brother-in-law to rehab for years. It's difficult when they just don't want to.
Been dealing with a work colleague/mate in recent months who lost his marriage through his alcohol abuse. Family interstate have proven to be no chop and I'm the only one who cares enough to help. Any mates he had here have deserted him long ago.
Had another rough weekend while trying to help him move his stuff out of his house to hand the keys over to his ex.....got there yesterday to someone not capable of standing and talking let alone palletizing belongings for interstate transport.
Easier to give up on him, but that's what he want's....so I wont. Bloody tough though.
Well, after his marriage break up was finalised last week he received a pay out from his ex. From the little information I can gather out of him in his current state he spent Friday night at the casino and has been drinking straight bourbon since that time. God knows how much of his monies he blew on Friday night.
Have arranged for him to head to the RAH again on the back of suicidal comments.
I won't give up on him.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.

While we're on updates, hopefully my bro-in-law gets into a rehab place at Naracoorte in the next fortnight.

I'm sure JK won't mind me mentioning that his Mum sadly passed away after a long illness on Monday.
I'm sure everyone in our SA Footy family is thinking of him at this sad time.

I'd like to echo the aforementioned sentiments.
It's good to see there's plenty of shoulders on the forum when and if someone needs it.

Likewise to Spermy.
Also, a very sad situation with the parents of a woman on MH17 who still think that's she's alive.

Re: Things that make you sad.
telling my apparent best mate of 30 years to not bother contacting me again after she couldn't make an effort to come and have a coffee with me for my birthday this morning but just posted a selfie of herself at the pub with other friends..
told me she couldn't come because her daughter just got out of hospital.

Give it time. Maybe wait for a apology. 30 years is along time to drop someone for a bad decision.

Nah, just the straw that broke the camels back. Serial offender. I'm the stupid one for putting up with it.

I obviously don't read this thread very often, so a belated thanks to everyone for their thoughts.
Sorry to hear about your mate FC, that would be a shithouse feeling and one you don't expect a good mate to inflict upon ya.
