What irritates me is not so much the money itself but the dishonesty! This is, by stealth, Land Tax on the personal residence which they promised they would never introduce.
They would, of course, argue that, technically, they have kept their word as it is not called Land Tax. However, jacking up the ESL and the supply charges on utilities to fund the deficit they ran up works the same way.

by the same token, while driving in the hills on saturday i made sure to give a little wave of acknowledgement to the lovely driver of the truck that flat out refused to use the "slow vehicle turnouts" they were merrily passing at a whopping 40km/h, once i eventually got past them that is. stupid pricks waved back. somehow they were totally oblivious to the dozen or so vehicles that they were holding up with their complete lack of courtesy. carrot and stick works imho
