Don't forget Schubert's cheap shot that caused James to react the way he did.

I always found the vision of that incident interesting to watch - Schubert hits Gowser, then you can see him being tracked through footy traffic like prey before he cops a whack.

A little while after the incident I was told that Schuby had suggested prior to the game that he would be targeting three people that day, Gowans x2 and Daniel Schell. Don't how true that is, but it came from a reasonable source.

Thats bullshit. Schubert was a nice bloke and fair player but for some reason had a brain fade and belted Gowans. He told me after the game and si ce that he still doesn't know why he did it?

The story came from a family friend of his and an acquaintance of mine, who spoke to him prior to and after that game, including at Prospect Oval that night. It might be BS, and it might not be. It all adds to the colour of the story.
Myths build up around plenty of the incidents in footy.

Not a well known one but the post match punch on between some North players and Central players on the way to the changing rooms after a match at Prospect in 1973. It was the catalyst for away teams using the Prospect Cricket Club rooms in future.

True, never did a Gowans start anything, always just finished it off?

As far as infamous moments go, crapping on your coach's desk to confirm your departure from the club would have to be right up there.

Yeah, it's the polar opposite of "don't burn your bridges".

There you go, when you over hear someone say "Don't burn your bridges" in an employment sense, chime in and say "Or you could shit on their desk?" and see the response.

To be fair, the loos in the offices of Prospect Oval are horrible, and Jars had a really inviting desk.

I did hope this thread would center on on-field incidents, otherwise it'd be taken up with pages and pages about the goings on at the Bay in the 70s and 80s.

Having said that, happy to hear about the keys in the bowl stuff as well (names changed to protect the not-so-innocent, please).

A bit more off-field, Mr Cayle and the daughter of Cagey Hunningkam?
