Re: 2016 SANFL Crowds
Thank you. Basically the current average versus the year before the intrusion of the professionals shows roughly an 800 person drop per game (on average). At 800 x $10= $8,000 per game excluding food and drink revenue. Over 18 games (not the old 22 games) $144,000 lost revenue, for $50k from the crows and zero from the power.

Re: 2016 SANFL Crowds
Too many,
Early starts,
Sunday games,
Byes,
followers lose interest when they don't have a regular Saturday attendance program with the exception of a few night matches.
Like tomorrow why would the SANFL program an early start game and on Mother's Day.
Can the TV coverage ,the game should have been played today.
My guess a crowd at Prospect of say 1350.
1200 roosters and 150 crows.

I have been harping on about it a bit, but even after the Power joined the AFL there was a determined and loyal group that stuck by the Magpies, and their crowds remained respectable, with the constant prospect of masses turning up if they made finals.
Since they became the power reserves that loyal group took the only loyal option open to them.
They evaporated.
I know they are having a crap year, but the days when they were still a stand alone club are becoming more distant, and the new identity is taking hold. The SANFL's once greatest crowd draw card continues to fall down the list, and it's not just because they are having a crap year.
As someone who loves the SANFL enough to the extent that I want all clubs to be healthy, what has happened to the Magpies counts as one of the great travesties of AFL meddling.
And I know there'll be plenty of Power fans who'll read this and think "Yeah whatever. Who cares?"
And that is exactly the problem.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Re: 2016 SANFL Crowds
I reckon less than 1000 at Pospect today.
About 50-100 crows supporters.
Lowest crowd ever?
SANFL thank you,
better than a bye though!

There may have been a bigger crowd at a bye!!!
Wont be long before the combined attendance at all games in a round is less than 4000 (strangely enough the figure that the crows were supposed to get extra to all their games
Sad reflection on the degenerated comp
Verschrikkelyk!!

After adding that I would say crowds this year are now line ball with last season
2016 after 1st 28 games - 74,256 / 28 games = 2652 per game
2015 after 1st 27 games - 71,017 / 27 games = 2630 per game
Can't see the North v Crows game tomorrow lifting that average.
Whilst some clubs have an increase in home crowds over last years final figure
The "big 4" for home crowds are already under last years final average
Port (-28.7%), Sturt (-5.4%), Glenelg (-4.6%) and Norwood (-1.8%)
and usually crowd numbers drop as a season progresses.
That said most clubs have only had 2-3 home games so that may change.
Thanks for the update Phil.
So this season we are line ball with previous year however the weather has been PERFECT so far this season, spectators have needed sunscreen more than warm clothing so far. Its going to get ugly in coming months I feel.

Big dip in home crowds there for Port. Would expect Norwood's to decline further too once the weather sets, and especially if we keep playing the sub-standard method of footy we have thus far.

Re: 2016 SANFL Crowds
The crowds definitely feel smaller this season.
1500 on sat to watch South v Norwood usually crowd would be bigger and considering how well we are travelling it's not good.
As other posters have mentioned the fixture is terrible this season and I reckon this isn't helping crowds.
Almost feels like every week someone has a bye and given we now have an even number of teams that's just ridiculous.
The SANFL needs to get back to its bread and butter Saturday arvo time slot and reduce the number of byes cause it just isn't working.

Re: 2016 SANFL Crowds
All 4 games on Saturday afternoon this round I'm betting the crowds will be quite good for this weekend.
Could highlight how bad the fixture has been this season!!!

Maybe they don't want to attend a practice match

Re: 2016 SANFL Crowds
I've struggled to get to all Sturt games this year due to going to the soccer and being away. Yesterday was the third game I've attended. I've vowed not to go to any AFL reserves games this year as it just leaves me with bitter feelings towards the comp. I've given the reserves teams a fair go but no longer.
One thing that really irks me is that one of the "benefits" pushed by the media for the inclusion of the reserves teams was the eradication of the byes (which I never really minded), yet 7 rounds in and Sturt have had 2 byes already, I struggle to take the comp seriously if backflips and lies like these are shoved down my throat.
I've been a Sturt member for many years and this is the first year I haven't felt compelled to. Do I feel guilty, a little, enough for me to join up? Possibly.
The comp has taken so many hits to the guts in recent years I think it's pretty well terminal now. The advent of the AFL imposed deliberate OOB rule is just another punch to the head, I don't think anyone likes it and I think the umpires struggle with it also.
I can't see how attendances are going to increase with the current situation. Something major has to change but no one in any position of power or influence has the balls to make a stand publicly. It's pretty sad and pathetic.
