for a single HD stream they recommend 5 Mbps. You will struggle to maintain that consistently with a 12Mbps connection. SD requires 3 Mbps which should be fine.

We have crappy ADSL at home which never reaches speeds of 5Mbps (just ran a test and it's 3.55, which is one of the better result's in the last 12 months lol), but we generally don't have any problem running Netflix (although we do have to kick the kids off Youtube if they're still up).

Would I be right in assuming the speeds we're getting (3.55/0.87) would definitely be better once on the NBN (which should be close to completion in our area)?

Yep even the lowest NBN connection would be much better. Though it will be more expensive

Awesome, cheers .. Happy to pay for it to have better than the shit we've had for ages.

I have a 50/20 fibre to the node connection and during peak times it slows to more like 20/20. Which is still fine for me, but if you were on a 12/1 connection it may slow to unacceptable speeds

thankfully everytime i have checked our speed at home we have been within 3% of what we pay for. anytime ive seen slowness its been on my end with the computer doing something retarded and slowing itself down, not the connection.

we now sometimes have three different streams of netflix running, while i play online games. it has made a massive difference compared to our adsl connection. i was lucky to get 1mbps on a good day with that, barely enough for some games on its own, and completely useless for others.

Time to upgrade your 56k dialup modem mate. ;)
Have you spoken to your ISP as less than 4mbs is terrible.
They may be able to bump you up to at least 6mbs via their software at their end with no technician required.

Yeah mate, pretty much on a first name basis with Abdul at Telstra these days.

Distance from the exchange apparently.

I was with Telstra as well for years getting 4-5mbs and they told me the same thing about being too far from the exchange.
I went to iinet about 2 years ago and am now getting around 7-8mbs.

I guess you're getting NBN soon so hopefully you get some good speeds on that.

Hi guys, need some mechanical advice.

We have a 2005 Pajero turbo deisel, its recently been serviced and they have discovered the "master brake cylinder" is leaking and needs to be replaced, the car is currently making a horrible scratching sound when breaking at the moment and I'm worried they may fail. I'm currently asking for a quote, as the first one I've received seems to be rather high with minimal options, I'm happy for a second hand part to go in as it's an older car.

Any recommendations on fair price mechanics in the southern suburbs? We are at Sheidow park. Been quoted $1500 just for the second hand part.

Not sure if it's comparable, but I just had the clutch master cylinder in my wifes Fiesta replaced. I went to Stillwell Ford and bought the part direct from them. Cost me about $150, and it took the mechanic about an hour to swap over. Cost under $300 all up.

I always source parts myself. Mechanics put huge mark ups on parts.
