Dunno about that... Internode recently doubled my downloads to 10GB per month at no extra charge, but I don't use much over half most months. My average consumption may be up about 10% because I'm prepared to download updates twice for two machines rather than transfer them on a USB stick now.
I can see that business use and the big private download users may escalate consumption once unleashed, but how much should we the majority be subsidising that group. (It is like the SA public paying to upgrade the Adelaide Oval for the less than 2% of the population who ever go there.)
It does grow. The advent of a new woman in my life who is a rather technically and socially connected one lead to my download use escalating to about 13 GB per month - that included hooking up her Smart TV to my system. Last month we hit a new record high of 30GB, but that did include having just come back from 3 months away (in an area of restricted Internet access) and having between us 4 computers and two smart phones in need of catch up updates...
I expect it will settle back to about 15GB now However neither of us see any need for speeds faster than my present 25/5 NBN deal.
fair to say I use a ton more now. for instance, right now i am watching arsenal/chelsea, and also have the aus india ODI on foxtel go, and the davis cup streaming, and the mrs is watching netflix in the lounge (i also have the F1 on foxtel. ridiculous night for sport)

My NBN box is beeping as the backup battery is going flat. Have been doing some reading about it and looking up battery prices but thought I'd ask on here for some advice first.
Do I really need the battery? If I'm going to replace it where do I get one from? Can I replace it myself or does a technician/electrician need to do it? How much are the batteries?
I had to replace mine a couple of months ago. Easy to do, NBN page has instructions, check out Youtube below. Cost about $55 from Battery World, bloke told me it will last 4-5 years. Battery keeps phone going in event of blackout.
A mate of mine had 1200 dropouts after the NBN was connected, then got put onto the Satellite Internet mob called Uniti. It's more expensive but it's also more reliable and quicker.
He's stoked he went down that path now. No dropouts and FAST!

I had NBN at Prospect, it was absolutely hopeless and I get faster speeds and a more reliable connection with my current ADSL connection (but it is the fastest ADSL Ive ever witnessed). Can stream HD while several other devices are connected no probs. I put that down to the fact the NBN was with optus, I don't know what my housemate was thinking going with them. My son reckons the ADSL here is better than the NBN he has at his home in Happy Valley too and he's a gamer.

This is a big worry for me at my place......NBN will be here by the end of the year and my currrent internet has no issues what so ever. Stream Foxtel without issue 99% of the time.

fair enough. I dont know about uniti but i can recommend Nuskope if they service your area

I rang my internet provider the other day to complain about my speeds for ADSL again. I have been checking when the NBN was due and the site just said it was being worked on and could not give a date. Internode did some digging and found that I was in fact not on the rollout list at all. They have contacted NBN to inform them of my location and they offered to put me on Fixed Wireless on Friday! Internode have offered a trial of both to see what is best as it is Wireless and they have to leave the copper anyway. I am getting the quote now.

I got the free upgrade to a 50Mbps service (from my previous 25Mbps) from Internode early this year and testing says I am getting 47.7. Data consumption is now up to about 28 GB per month as we get more into Netflix etc.
