Re: Horse Racing Tips & Discussion
MB will fail for the same reason that GDP has turned to shit and Angle Park isn't a thriving metropolis.
Punters generally like a drink, having no public transport linking to the tracks hurts these type of venues.
Gawler generally attracts a decent crowd, their drink prices are reasonable and there is a train station at the track, a lot of punters use the train to go there, just like the tram at Morphettville, no one wants to uber/cab long distances nor do they want to pissfart around catching a train then a bus etc.
If Victoria Park could cater for all 3 codes the racing industries would thrive again here.
Morphies: As mentioned before, a bit far from the action, especially if they use the Parks track, hit and miss on numbers, drinks are expensive, too far for those north of the city.
GDP: Dying in the arse big time, might get one or two popular nights a year, no atmosphere and hard to get to without a desi.
Gawler: Great if you live north of the city, drinks well priced and you're close to the action, plenty of places to bet too.
I frequent these 3 venues fairly often.

Does the train stop right at the track at Gawler?
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

On racedays there is a Gawler Racetrack station, you wouldn't know it was there any other day, we used it Friday week ago.

It was funny, I knew the train driver and he didn't know they were having a twilight meeting so he dropped the missus and I off there then rang through to get a sign put up for other drivers to be aware.

No Saturday's there for ages now, they've had a few lately.
Sunday the 20th and some mid-weekers including a twilight meeting on Feb 28.

Yeah, I reckon they're going to pummel Gawler and MB with a few Saturday meetings in coming years. Not sure why. Both clubs have gone through major facility upgrades in recent years.

Re: Horse Racing Tips & Discussion
So, Bordertown twilights, hopefully I haven't done my dough by the time R1 rolls around. Maybe time to implement a staking plan...
Anyway - my thoughts below
R1) I'm respectful of 8 Regina Margherita's form. Starting favourite and drawn to suit from gate 2. Think it runs top 3 no worries and probably wins. 9 Bottle and Bird gives them something to chase but think there's enough fitness to chase it down. 4 Oliver's Tale looms as good each way value, while two horses with ability that have cost me money previously are 5 Sir Johnson and 6 Good Nic. Can't see Sir Johnson reversing its form but will watch Good Nic's fresh run after a disappointing recent prep.
8, 4, 9, 1 - Watching 5 & 6.
R2) Not looking too far outside the favourites here. Taking 7 Cover Girl on top having watched her finish up their backs at Balaklava, then stepping up to metro class on Boxing Day and chewing up late ground over 1200m, so thinking 1300m suits and much easier task here. 3 Notarbartolo brings in impressive form behind talented A Thousand Degrees and Scare Campaign but query of the extra 200m. 8 Scopen Success has been consistent and I like first starter 6 Mr Botterill, don't mind Luke Williams as a young jockey. 4 Canidae has been terrible but comes out of same good trial as Oliver's Tale, so watching it.
7, 8, 6, 3 & 11 - Watching 4
R3) 11 Sizzkye did catch the eye last start. Outside of it, not much appeals. Going to trust some trainers/jockeys here.
11, 3, 1, 4
R4) Difficult stayers race with several taking good form in. With that in mind, overthinking jockeys/trainers may mess with the speed, opening the door for a swooper. I didn't mind the efforts of 9 Lady Barron in city class last start against some good horses, Willochra, Pretty Glass, Tahnee Tiara...
For the better chances, 4 Centenary Shot looks my pick. Maund retains the ride and got the choccies last start.
4, 8, 2, 1 & 9 as a roughie.
R5) I was keen on 7 Strategic Spice but Christine Puls doesn't ride too many winners above $3 so perhaps a place bet is best here. 5 Jackthegiantslayer back from Flemington to Bordertown? Pls. I'll take the $3.20 on offer and see what happens. Don't mind 1,2,3,4 either and thinking 2 Art Music is the best of those.
5, 2, 3, 7 and 4.
Going to bed. Will hopefully be back for the last three tomorrow!

Didn't get back to these, apologies, but two on top selections home, plus a landed place bet, money back on the each way shot and the debutant booting home made it a solid afternoon. Til next time, shoppers...
