Whilst I have no issues with it, I do feel like other states never really had a chance - not when you have commentators every night pushing their views that QLD should host it for "saving the AFL season".
Unfortunately it makes sense, I thought we'd have a good chance of getting it being COVID free but most teams are already up there so relocating will be pointless and a waste of money.
Once the finals hit, all of the non participating clubs will head back home along with their families.

Of course it makes sense, I agree - but why go through the whole tender process and make it seem like other states genuinely had a chance?
.. and if they (AFL) were genuinely open about other states apart from QLD hosting, then their commentators and reporters shouldn't have been pushing the QLD agenda IMO.
Seems like a total waste of time - should've just said from the start the Gabba would host.

I thought I heard that WCE will be given the same luxuries as Port.
WA won't allow fly in fly out ( hard quarantine for 7 days ) SA will allow fly in fly out so no WA finals I think.
WA can have a final in the first week thanks to the pre finals bye but none after that.

Yep, that was my point. It was always going to be at the Gabba so why string the other states along.
I don't think they did string the other states along, the state governments woukd have been fully aware it was going to be played in Queensland but from a political point of view they put in bids anyway as wanted to be seen as at least trying. The AFL had to look at the bids as part of due diligence in case something extraordinary was offered and help devise a backup plan in case Queenslands outbreak went the way of Victoria's. Hardly a negative for the AFL I would have thought.

AFL and due diligence is surely an oxymoron. Gil does what’s best for himself.

Not sure that anyone has, on the same token, SA could've done the same, the only difference is that they have two AFL grounds plus Cazaly Stadium if we want to get technical.

Bollocks, im on the Eagles at $19
GF needed to be at Optus to help AFL recoup some cash

With you. Could have been played anywhere. What's the bill going to be for 4 jet loads of AFL official and families for 6 weeks . Who is paying for that?

So if West Coast finish 4th and are the "away team" in first week of finals, they wont get any home finals?? Means they are no chance of winning this year now.

Correct, they need to finish top 2 to get a home final and even if they win the Prelim they host will be in Qld. Still better off than Geelong usually are.
Wouldn't be too bad for a top 4 side to lose the first final, win the 2nd and come up against the Eagles in Qld, might be another year of the GF replicating a QF.

Some talk that teams may be able to request home finals in Adelaide. With West Coast’s history in Adelaide it would be worth pursuing

If you finish 4th and lose you get the semi final at home against the winner of 5th v 8th.

*Unless you're Geelong.
Yeah I know, was assuming the team that lost week 1 would win week 2. Either way whichever team goes through that SF would be happier.
