They'll keep an even number so either a merger, relocation, or two additional licenses added.

Perhaps we will see a conference setup sooner rather than later.

Overcoming/mitigating this will be a big issue.
They even refuse to sell each other's beer. Boags in the north, Cascade in the South (or vice versa)
There is even a bar in the middle of Tassie that has Boags at the Northern end of the bar and Cascade at the Southern end

Hell no to new teams

Do we really want to go through another 8 years of compromised drafts?

they are already unfair as it is but gifting a new team the best 10 players each year sucks for every other club

The logical choice would be to send one of the poor Melbourne clubs up to the Gold Coast similar to Fitzroy/Brisbane.
In this case though it should be more of a takeover with the Melbourne club keeping their colours, name etc and basically killing off the Suns name, logo etc.
The new club can pick the 40 best players from both sides
Gold Coast Saints?
Tasmania then come in as the 18th side.
Won’t happen though as the AFL are already talking about WA3 and further expansion

This got released three weeks ago:

https://www.aflnt.com.au/news/2021/afln ... -territory

The actual document linked at the bottom is quite interesting especially when it lists the income and expenditure for each club in 2018

TEAM REVENUE (AUD)
West Coast 82,265,015

Do you reckon that kind of set up would work. I know in America franchises pack up and move cities keeping their names/colours etc and it works for them over there but not sure it would work for us.

Worked with Fitzroy and they were in a far better financial state than the Saints are now

When the timing is right I reckon the AFL would love nothing more than a 20 team comp. Top 10 in finals.

Thursday Night Game
Friday Night Game
Saturday Lunch Time Game
Saturday Twilight Game
Saturday Night Game x2
Sunday Lunch time Game
Sunday Twilight Game
Sunday Evening Game
Monday Night Game

At some point expand that to a conference system, Victorian clubs and Interstate Clubs. 10 Vic club, 10 interstate clubs (top 5 in each conference make finals)

Worked for Brisbane (definitely not Fitzroy) Three premierships though was always going to help things off field accelerate. Was that due to the merger though?

Yes, I’m sure moving one of the most financial and biggest supported clubs in Australia to the Gold Coast will work :)

Enough that Brisbane get plenty of memberships from Victoria and good crowds often. I still love seeing the guernsey being rolled out too

When Brisbane play nobody thinks of Fitzroy.

Nobody.

Disagree, Brisbane do it very well.

I'm struggling to work out how Gold Coast spent $27m in one year on employees.

More than 8 teams making finals would be ridiculous.

I.e. I expect it to happen.
