Just take 17 instead of 16 and if necessary leave one of the support staff home.

I read somewhere last tour they took a squad of 18 which included 7 batters, 2 all-rounders, 1 specialist keeper, 4 frontline quicks and 4 specialist spinners.

F*** me, is there going to be anyone left in Australia?

I don’t see the point in taking Swepson or Morris but oh well, not sure Murphy or Handscomb will do anything besides running drinks out either.

Peter Handscomb has suffered an injury scare playing club cricket on Tuesday night and is under a cloud for next month’s tour of India.

Handscomb was named in an 18-man Australian squad on Wednesday as a batting reserve and back-up wicketkeeper but will now need to be assessed by medical staff before being passed fit to travel with the squad in a couple of weeks’ time.

The extra spinners will be handy net bowlers.

Handscomb, probably just getting the FF points on his Qantas account.

Specialist cordial mixer Marcus Harris snubbed

Morris would be better off playing shield cricket he isn't getting a game.

If Carey gets injured Hanscomb is the replacement :vom:

FMD, I want whatever he is on

Selector George Bailey quoted as:

“Ashton Agar continues to impress following his comeback in Sydney and we believe left-arm finger spin will play an important role in Indian conditions.”

Absolutely, if you don’t have you’re better off working to your strengths, personally, I wouldn’t play any of our spinners besides Lyon, Swepson going is a friggin joke, he’s proven that he is shit over there, Agar proved it in Sydney.

I think for the first time in a while we have some options for over in india.
If we get a pitch that has some pace and bounce (dreaming, I know), then we could see a bowling attack of Lyon, Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood (Boldand in to cover Starc if unfit).
If we get a genuine turner, we could see Cummins the only quick (with Green assuming he's fit), and then Lyon, Agar and one of Murphy/Swepson.
If we get to a point in the series were we are struggling to bat long enough, we could even play the extra bat, especially if Green is fit. Go in with Cummins, Lyon, Agar (or a quick), Green, Head, Smith and Labuschange.

Despite the options, I think we'll go with a fairly standard side.

5 bats: Khawaja, Warner, Labuschange, Smith, Head.
Green at 6, and if not fit, they'll play a genuine bat, Renshaw / Handscomb the only two spare bats in the squad.
Carey at 7.

Then with the bowlers, I think they'll play 2 spinners, and 2 quicks.

Lyon and Cummins are both locks obviously.
Agar the first in line as the 2nd spinner given he's a lefty and Starc will play if fit, Hazlewood his backup.

So that gives you the following:

Khawaja
Warner
Labuschange
Smith
Head
Green / Renshaw
Carey
Agar
Cummins
Starc / Hazlewood
Lyon

That 13 man squad is really the starting xi, plus the two covers for injury.

Then you've got concussion replacements ready to go in Handscomb (bat), Murphy (spin), Boland (pace).
Swepson and Morris don't really seem to have a purpose on the tour.
Danny Southern telling Plugga he's fat, I'd like to see that!

He did say “following”. He may have done something after the Sydney test because he sure as hell did nothing during it, I think he got a 1/10.

As much as I’m not a Renshaw fan, I can see the fascination in him, the flexibility of being able to bat anywhere makes a lot of sense to take him

What was Warne's test bowling record like in India? I seem to recall not all that flattering. If the best ever was average in Indian conditions, the likes of Agar, Swepson & co don't stand a chance. So what's the alternative bowlers... just toil away with 3 quicks, Green & Lyon. If there's room to take them it's worth a shot. Have the selectors missed a trick by not taking Kuhnemann?

Personally think if Green doesn’t play they need an extra bowler, Sydney Test showed that.
