Unfortunately I thought this would be the case. Frustration getting the better of the young having to deal with a tagged for the first time at AFL level.
He will learn from this.

Not sure what you guys are seeing, but the Saints player had disposed of the ball and Reid still chose the 2nd tackling action to dump him back/head first where he couldn't protect himself, that's a 2 weeker all day every day.
I know watching my boys play at grassroots level Im very glad that this sort of tackle is being taken out of the game.

If you can't see that was going to get 2 weeks then I welcome you to AFL footy, the rules are confusing but at it's best it's a great game. Welcome aboard!

I hear what you’re saying, but he disposed of the ball halfway through the tackle, not before.Dutchy wrote:Not sure what you guys are seeing, but the Saints player had disposed of the ball and Reid still chose the 2nd tackling action to dump him back/head first where he couldn't protect himself, that's a 2 weeker all day every day.

I'm glad the AFL decided to clear up the HTB rule
Only one problem - someone forgot to tell the umpires
I reckon this weekend was the worst umpiring I've seen in a decade
I think we need 6 umpires and 12 boundary umpires

And at halfway he should have stopped the tackle, the 2nd action wasn't required and is what needs to be taken out of the game.dedja wrote:I hear what you’re saying, but he disposed of the ball halfway through the tackle, not before.Dutchy wrote:Not sure what you guys are seeing, but the Saints player had disposed of the ball and Reid still chose the 2nd tackling action to dump him back/head first where he couldn't protect himself, that's a 2 weeker all day every day.

100% agree he should be suspended as it's the rules but I don't think he should be ineligible for the award. Good point at grassroots level, what do you think Harley Reid was taught 10 years ago when starting? I'd say attack the ball and the contest, tackle your opponent to the ground. What he wouldn’t have been taught was to belt someone, run past a contest to flatten someone, put your studs into someones face, abuse officials, all the things I'd consider "unfair" acts rendering a player ineligible for a "fair" award. Not an over zealous tackle or an incidental bump.Dutchy wrote:Not sure what you guys are seeing, but the Saints player had disposed of the ball and Reid still chose the 2nd tackling action to dump him back/head first where he couldn't protect himself, that's a 2 weeker all day every day.

Re: AWFUL Round 12.5 ish
Harley would have been taught to tackle and take the oppo to ground, maybe even told to hurt the opp, thats why this change is going to take some time but we are on the right track.Vamos wrote:100% agree he should be suspended as it's the rules but I don't think he should be ineligible for the award. Modern coaching is now to get your foot close to the oppo, hip on hip, head on their number, again this is going to take some time to change.

Hence why I believe there should be some leniency applied to awards where a player is suspended in a footy act. Imagine today's rules applied retrospectively to the brownlow, reckon youd be lucky to find a winner pre 2023

Just bring in the last touch rule and be done with it.
The current interpretations are laughable

Easily the worst I've seen.
I'm still cranky over the Sullivan one.
Reid gets grabbed around the neck after the ball goes out of bounds.
That's a free kick all day long.....not paid with the umpire right there??

Games never been harder to officiate with the constant rule changes and change of interpretations due to public demand. The confusion is here to stay.

Re: AWFUL Round 12.5 ish
I pissed myself laughing a few years ago when someone said it would be touch footy with kicking in the near future.
It's bloody closer to coming in than ever.
The Reid one should be a warning. Next time 2 or more.
He was very unlucky in that momentum worked against him.
The bloke he tackled luckily didn't bounce his head.
4 blokes looking at each other to pay the free.

Or just media?
Most people I know are sick of the rule changes and are turning off watching games
A bit like saying there's not enough talent in the pool for a 19th or 20th team, there is definitly not enough talent in the umpiring pool to justify 3, let alone, 4 umpires. Get rid of the 4th - its made f'all difference and some of those muppets are just embarrassing

They had HTB right a few years ago, but for some reason this year it was almost non existent. Now they are going so far the other way, no one will want to win the ball and there is no prior anymore.

Re: AWFUL Round 12.5 ish
Thought the umpiring was excellent this round .. Not perfect (never will be) by any means, but given it was the first week of tightened HTB interpretation I thought they did well and the games benefitted from it.
